Posted - Aug 07 2019 : 10:20:57 AM The Summer months bring so many beautiful sights to see in the garden: fruit, vegetables and the animal kingdom; but sometimes the heat of the Dog Days of Summer make me yearn for Autumn. This morning I got a photo of a purple pansy in the Scaveola planter. I love volunteers showing up to give a wink that Autumn will indeed return!
The little hen house and fenced yard are waiting for fifteen Ameraucana female chicks from Murray McMurray the week of September 16th. In the meantime I have been painting barn quilts, one of which will be secured to the front door of the hen house.
What is it that y'all are excited about doing, making, seeing?

Those chicks have made my year! That little chicken house is as close to Ft. Knox as we could get it. I can see the concern with bird dogs. Maybe one day you can get some chicks, too. I am so happy you enjoyed the pictures. So many pretty and interesting things to see, and thank God for digital cameras! Many Blessings to you.

Posted - Sep 24 2019 : 11:32:42 AM The second day of Autumn and still HOT outside! It's wonderful to read the posts of kindred spirits. Well, the chicks arrived, flowers blooming, flowers/shrubs to plant and festivals are starting. My first chicks were shipped May 2004. After a few years of not having them and missing so much, a new flock graces my presence. They are supposed to be pullets. We'll find out pretty soon. The barn quilt has been hung on the door of their "palace". Irises to be planted are blooming. Serendipitously I discovered how very easy it is to root Gardenias. When flowers start to bloom a bouquet is sure to find it's way onto the kitchen counter. I like to add some green so I clipped some gardenia branches. They rooted!! So, we clipped more to root. Then, potted them up and voila! They will be planted around the porch when it gets a bit cooler. The sedum is turning deeper shades to it's crimson beauty. Roses are blooming. Toads are hunting and jumping into flower pots. Lol! Weenie, the cat, waits by the Indigo plant as I come back from the chicken house. So, so happy Autumn is officially here!
Keep shining! Natalie

Posted - Sep 07 2019 : 5:53:36 PM Hi Natalie, and a big welcome! Your barn quilts are amazing - so beautiful! What talent! Love the pics, and especially love your hen house door. My mom lives in Georgia, too. Such a warm, friendly place.
I am excited for fall, too, but also a bit sad as this was a wonderful summer. We had lovely weather almost every day, and the gardens were one of the best ever! I am looking forward to pumpkins, sweaters, and soup!

Posted - Aug 09 2019 : 4:05:40 PM Hi Barbara, Thank you. Creativity is medicine for the soul. We have a blackberry vineyard so the Summer is focused on that. We sell wholesale and take berries to the Atlanta Farmers Market for about 6 weeks. Then, there is the pruning, etc. to get them ready for next year. Chickens are so much fun! It will great to spend time with the chicks and socialize them. Lots of pictures, no doubt!
