Why do soooo many people, get sooo excited over grown men chasing other grown men around on , at least half the time , fake grass, chasing a ball?, that is not even really a ball (its a deformed version), then bump chests, and pat each other on the behind, and this goes on for 3 hrs? Then spend weeks watching these games, glued to the TV, and God forbid you get interupted by the phone or a knock at the door. This just does not make sense to me...

Wow...so Opening Day, you won either way? I agree--A-Rod is something special. I'm glad he stayed with the Packers!

Oh, I am. I have to admit, American football rules do seem to take ages to learn. (I've been a fan for over a decade and still get fuzzy on them!) I actually end up feeling really bad for him when, after a play, he suddenly splutters, "Wait, what just happened? What's going on? How can you keep track of this?" Poor guy....

*giggles* This is great. In my house we actually argue over the term "football": Man of the House is British and insists upon using the term for soccer, whereas I'm an NFL fan (go Packers!).

He can't understand the appeal of American football, nor can he keep up with the plays and rules (it seems every week I have to explain the difference between a field goal and the point after a touchdown). I can't see why he wants to spend ninety minutes watching the very game that gave me nightmares in gym class (although I would never tell him that!).

Luzy: I didn't become a football fan until 2005. I have learned a lot, and still hope to learn more. I mean if Tina can watch 3 hours of equistrian events, she can surely sit through 3 hours of football. Don't you think so? LOL

Hey Tina, I was just like you until about 3 years ago when my friend got me interested in LSU. Before that I HATED football. It would drive me nuts that it would take these men so long to do a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g! They'd move three feet and pile on each other! I just didn't understand it! BUT then I started watching and getting really excited when there was an interception, and understanding more about the game and that was it. I was hooked. I especially like college football cause it just seems more exciting to me. So never say never my friend. If this die hard baseball fan can come around to football, anything is possible in the universe!!! Love and hugs, Lu

How about Polamalu and those hair commercials! I love them.

Marly,

You are a girl after my own heart! I smile everytime I see Polamalu! He's definitely my NFL crush...so much so that my 5 year old cousin chose him for an action figure at the store and lets me use him when we "play" football. It's usually a Tebow - Polamalu match up, but I've ALWAYS had a thing for the Island boys. :)

Hmm...maybe I'm weird, but I'd rather watch horses than sweaty guys.

Just so you all know, I don't hate any sports, my kids were all heavily involved from the age of five till the end of high school, and a couple on fun adult teams after. I loved going to all of their games and watching, taking teams out for pizza, etc...I just can not sit in front of a TV and watch, don't have time, and just can't sit still that long, unless its equestrian events, like 3-day...

How about Troy Polamalu with the Pittsburgh Steelers. OMG---that long curly hair. Hello!!!!!! Plus he is one great defensive player. He comes out of nowhere to sack the QB.

Tina,

I agree with Marly....your post cracked me up. When you strip things like sports down to what they really are, it does seem sort of ridiculous. For me, it was always about getting together with family, cheering for your home team, and eating together. Brings back good memories from my childhood.
As far as the neanderthal-like behavior, I think I may be a sucker for the unrefined male. I enjoy a good stimulating, intellectual conversation with a guy. However, something about those football players. :)

Great post. It's nice that we can all share the things that we enjoy and those that just don't make any damn sense to us too! :)

Dear Tina:
Your post made me smile, giggle, scream, shake my head, etc... at your interpretation to football. However, my motto is "to each his/her own". Having said that, I'm still giggling.
And- you bet, when the football game is on I don't answer the phone, I don't even answer the door- but I do yell loudly to come in. I am focused on how these men are playing the game of football. To me, it's a brain game. I only started watching football six years ago out of necessity. Now I love the sport of football. And- some of those grown men are very nice to look at; example Tom Brady. OMG... I really appreciated your post. You have made my day so much better, because now I know I'll be grinning all day long. Have a happy day Friend.
Marly
