Posted - May 21 2022 : 4:38:04 PM Ok, how do you save a sweater? For me,,, I machine embroider over a stain.. I bought this lovely soft Pullover/sweater not long ago, and go figure I was wearing it, and was in a bit of a hurry to through dinner together... Didn't put my apron on (lesson learned)... and yep! got some grease splatter on my sweater... Even Dawn dish soap and Fels-naptha couldn't get it out!..
What's a farm girl to do?... Yeppers! Machine embroidery over the splatter.. Ya Da! Now it's still wearable!
The dark rectangle shadow is from my camera...
For some reason the green looks washed out in the close up.
Anyway, I am glad I don't have to relegate my sweater to the rag bin.

Posted - May 24 2022 : 05:52:18 AM Grace, it looks like you made a great rescue for your pretty green sweater with the embroidery. That was a good idea ! I totally understand about the apron wearing. The minute I forget to put mine on , I always get a spatter of something and then it is iffy whether I can get it out. I have the most luck with the laundry product Shout it Out that comes in a spray bottle. I spray it on rub it in real good, let it sit about half an hour and then wash as usual. It works quite well on many common stains and it is much easier that Fels Naptha.

Posted - May 23 2022 : 10:28:42 PM Jean,, I used 2 layers of water soluble stabilizer on the underside and 1 layer of the water soluble stabilizer on the top side. Then I soaked the sweater in water for a couple on minutes. the design area will feel a bit stiff until you wash it in soapy water.... Now I need to wash it with laundry soap.

Posted - May 22 2022 : 11:32:47 AM You're sew creative Katmom. Great fix. What kind of stabilizing did you do? I've never tried to work on anything knitted. I love that sweater and would have been devastated too had I grease spattered it. I am so lax about wearing an apron but run around in sweats most of the time, so it really doesn't matter.
