Hi all,
Has anyone made a quilted petticoat/skirt? I saw this one and love it, but wondering if anyone has made one before, any hints or tips? I was just going to modify a skirt pattern, but is there anything special I need to watch out for?

Of course, you are all thinking of putting clothes like this away, but we are having our first really cold spell for the year, and reminded me that I wanted to do this last winter - never got round to it!!

I just thought that vintage one was too special - but you sure can't buy them! Some of the prices on vintage clothing!
I think I'll just modify a skirt pattern and wing it. I was just wondering if anyone had made one if there were any ideas about not looking like the Michelin Man! Although I read in Tasha Tudor's book that she just looks twice the size in winter and who cares?! Warmth is more important.
I quilt by hand and do lots of big cross stitch projects (all those Lavender and Lace angels - so beautiful! I'm making Ice Angel at the moment), so I am used to projects that take a long, LONG time to finish. I thought it would be lovely to have one I made myself - maybe (if it holds up!) to pass down to daughters.
I have seen the Folkwear pattern - I wonder if it is worth getting just to see how they do it. I have seen it on ebay before.

Jayne- That is just beautiful! It makes me think of Tasha's quilt skirt that she made, which was totally adorable. I have this half-circle skirt pattern saved in my favorites and I thought you might be able to use this with an old quilt to make a petticoat. All you would have to do is bind the hem and the waist. And if this guy can do it, anyone can!! :)

Hi,
The "Folkwear" line of patterns had a skirt pattern that was at least semi-quilted to the best of my recall. They have wonderful items including a "Praire Dress" pattern. You might want to for look them online. I believe they are "Folkwear" is now put out by Tauton Press.

I have never seen one of these before but this one is so pretty. It would take a lot of stitching for the quilting part by hand. I imagine it would be wonderfully warm though. I would think you could just use a skirt pattern and cut the fabric and lining the same. I'm not sure how you would do the batting except for cutting it from the same skirt pattern. Doesn't seem asthough the putting it together would be hard.
