Uugh! I am about ready to throw some machines in the dump!
Sew... yesterday I tried working on a gift on my embroidery machine and 2/3's way through the pattern,, kablewy!!! The stitches got off kilter, then the thread broke, and after I set the machine to start back up a few stitches,, it decided to start from the beginning!
I said a few impolite words and decided to walk away from that project.. then I put in a different stick with a cute cat pattern,,, part way through the whole pattern hung up and all I got was a wad of over stitched stitches!
Said a few more impolite words and walked out of my sewing room..
Sew today, I thought I would work on another project,,, a simple cute book marker.
Went to sew the tiny round hole that is pre-programed in my machine, made 3 tests, and each came out a tad wonky.. but I could live with it...
Then I stitched it on my fabric.. and Kablewy... Machines and I right now are NOT Simpatico!!!
Forget the impolite language,, I am going straight to the Wine Rack!

Jean, yep! even the built-in designs are having issues. I tested the same patterns on my old 4x4 embroidery machine, same stabilizer,
thread, tension etc.. no problem,, and no weird, clunky sound.
I am thinking my 5x7 machine might have been built/assembled on a Friday afternoon after lunch hour!!! LOL!

Oh thank you all for the sound advice... After 4 hours of dealing with alignment issues, thread breaking, etc... The machine still has hiccups! I did spot one problem, one of the metal thread guides had some how gotten out of position, I did a tad of pushing the metal back into it's correct spot, still can't figure out how,, but, the machine is still making a unusual clunky sounds, and the thread holder thingy just above the eye of the needle,, well the thread still keeps coming off while stitching. I am thinking the machine is in need of a tune-up or? The sound is not right. Also half the time at the end of a stitching cycle it doesn't 'bing' and sometimes doesn't auto cut
I am going to try to contact Brother tech support this week and see what they say. The machine is only 2 1/2 years old.
Hmmm, maybe it's time to trade this one in on a new more high tech mach !
Oh well. Such is life and thank goodness for chocolate and wine!

Jean is right on with the steps to fix most problems. 90% of all sewing machine problems are caused by those three easy-to-fix things plus setting the tension correctly. I once took a three day workshop and the instructor kept emphasizing them and showed us how to set tension. Since I took that workshop there have only been two machines I couldn't fix and I think they were probably timing problems which I just didn't want to mess with. I must qualify this by stating that all the machines I worked on were antique or vintage, but it still pretty much holds true with the new computerized genius machines.
Hey Vanessa -- I have an almost new embroidery machines for sale. I'm not patient either :-)

Grace, I can understand how frustrating this all must be!! Your bookmark, however, did turn out real cute! Hopefully Jean's suggestions will help with future projects. I can't image working on such a complicated machine.. I can barely sew straight stitches and do a half decent job!!

Grace might I suggest, Clean out the machine. Change the needle Re wind the bobbin change thread. CLEAN THE MACHINE. One little bit of lint can throw off the machine.
I am shocked at the amount of lint that certain threads put off. My Viking needs to be cleaned every day I sew. A small paint brush is my go to.

Here I am. Here I am. Well, like the ole sayin' goes, "Somedays are diamonds. Somedays are stones." Never more true than when you are doing machine embroidery . . . . sew here are the possible fixes -- first and foremost exactly what you did -- walk away from it and do something else for the rest of the day -- read, take a walk, get drunk, whatever . . . Then tomorrow before you do anything else, do these things:
Take the stitch plate and bobbin case out and take that little brush that came with your machine that you never use and very gently brush out all the inside and down under -- get in all the nooks and crannies that you can. You will be surprised at all the crapola that has accumulated there which can greatly affect your stitching.
Then, change your needle -- and if you are NOT using titanium top stitching needles, you are not getting maximum performance.
Then, rethread your machine -- and if you are NOT using good quality thread, you are not getting maximum performance. No cheap stuff if you please. Yes good thread is more expensive, but it is definitely worth the extra expense.
If you still have problems after all this -- delete the design from your thumb drive and reload it. Yes, they do sometimes get corrupted. Don't ask me why, I just know from experience that they do.
If all this fails to take care of the issues, it's time for the Dr. Get the machine into the shop.
Hope this helps . . . ask me how I know about all this . . . I ain't got this white hair for nuthin!!!

I still can't figure out why this eyelet stitch is wonky, for every 4 I do, 1 comes out almost goo..
BTW- ate the chocolate marzipan!

Going to try one more time.. checked my stitches, and tension...

Oh no Grace! I completely understand and I believe in the end you did it right. Walk away and have some Wine! I think you deserve the whole bottle.
And you have way more patience than I do, after the second time I would have thrown that darn machine in the yard! I sure hope you get it figured out.
