Posted - Feb 05 2022 : 6:26:25 PM These towels came from my grandma. I'm not sure if she stitched them all or not. I've not seen anything like it before, but I've not really looked either LOL! Do any of you know what the type of stitching is called?
Here's an up close look - it's like the stitches are weaved through the towel - nothing shows on the backside.

Posted - Feb 06 2022 : 04:40:40 AM I have heard that called monk cloth. I have seen the stitching before but don't know what kind or what it is called.
I have pieces embroidered the way your bottom picture is from my great grandmother. It is done on pillowcases.

Posted - Feb 06 2022 : 03:28:53 AM Heather, for some reason "huck" came to mind when I saw the towels. They could also be monks cloth, and that is Swedish embroidery. The designs are geometric and are made with a slightly bent needle in order to slip under the raised threads without going through to the back.

Posted - Feb 05 2022 : 6:31:37 PM Here are a couple more:
On this one the stitching goes through the back of the towel - see the knots on the bottom? That's the only difference between the front and the back.
This one is not the same kind of stitching, but I thought it was pretty :)
