Posted - Aug 21 2020 : 11:53:36 AM So, I am having fun in the Bowl filler swaps but do not own a dough bowl. Didn't want to buy new. So, had a look around the Goodwill and found this. An Ellinegr's Agatized bowl. (Had to go to Google to see what that was) This one is 11 1/2" across and is sold for $24.00. I'm thrilled with my $1.99 find. But....do I leave the finish as is, or give it a more rustic, well-loved color/finish?

Posted - Aug 24 2020 : 4:48:55 PM Ohhhh, such a SWEET find at 1.99!!! ( I was a poet and didnt know it, lol) Truly a gorgeous bowl as is, but the artist inside my head says DECORATE, DESIGN, COLOR!! SO if it were mine, I'd probably sand, distress and paint an American Indian design. Leave the inside original. Super lovely. Do what makes your heart move....

Posted - Aug 21 2020 : 5:21:07 PM Oh boy! So many ideas here! I am a mixed media artist and am very tempted to either collage on it or yes, like Nini said to give it that redware look. But as you say, some sanding will be involved. I'll post a picture IF I do alter it.

Posted - Aug 21 2020 : 4:42:11 PM I like it as is, especially the inside, but decorating the outside is definitely an idea.

Posted - Aug 21 2020 : 4:16:38 PM Angie! Great bowl! It actually kind of reminds me of those antique redware bowls. I think it'd be kind of cool if you painted it to look like one of those - in redware style! Plus wouldn't that be perfect with fillers! Can't wait to see what you come up with! Hugs - Nini

Posted - Aug 21 2020 : 1:33:36 PM Angie, I like a distressed look. Try sanding the bottom with coarse sandpaper. If you can take the finish off then try a stain you like. If it works you can do the bowl, if not nothing is lost, but your time & a little effort.

Posted - Aug 21 2020 : 1:16:40 PM I don’t know much about those bowls but I do agree with Marie. I personally would decorate it. You could also wrap and glue twine around it, glue gem or beads, if you are an artist maybe paint a design. Match it to your personal style.

Posted - Aug 21 2020 : 12:43:39 PM One could enhance the exterior by cutting those plastic credit cards we get in the mail into small pieces and making a mosaic of them by gluing them on the bowl. I would also use expired membership cards and driver's licenses. I haven't done this myself . . . yet. I do have a supply of cut up cards if you want them.

Posted - Aug 21 2020 : 12:08:38 PM I would leave it as is. Since it is chemically treated I'm not sure how you would rusticate it or how you could tell ahead if it would look right or not.
