Posted - Jun 25 2020 : 11:33:39 AM Scheeze... I need to get-a-grip.. I have way to much stuff stashed... I pulled out my lace trims basket...
and that's just the Tip of the Ice Berg! I used to be an avid sewer,,, then I changed gears... A lot of this stuff, lace is over 20 years old.. I have wrap frames of lace that has not even been used... Well at least I know I have a grand girlie who will love receiving this someday....
I think I had better stop clearing/cleaning out my sewing room.. some of the stuff is still in the packing boxes,, that after 2 1/2 yrs, I still have not un-packed! Get -a- Grip Grace!

Posted - Jun 28 2020 : 9:41:56 PM Winnie, large or small.. if you enjoy your what you are doing,, it's all good... I don't sew as much as I use to,, but when I do, I make sure I am doing it for fun. Some projects turn out and some are epic failures.. but I have fun... oh, and I usually have a glass of wine to accompany me.. Happy is the seamstress who sings as she sews...

Posted - Jun 28 2020 : 7:12:56 PM Sounds like a great little sewing place, Winnie. I used to sew sitting on the floor with the machine the coffee table until I went on a cruise with a friend and came home to find DH had turned the former master bedroom into a sewing room for me and my machines.

Posted - Jun 28 2020 : 12:57:44 PM Your sewing space sounds wonderful Winnie! I've accumulated enough stuff to have a sewing room but I make do with a bunch of plastic tubs and my livingroom for now.
I love lace but I don't have too much. The one thing that I have accumulated though is buttons. I'm not sure when it went from a few to a collection but I have jars and jars of buttons now.

Posted - Jun 28 2020 : 12:34:17 PM I remember that the attic storage area, which opened into my Mom and Dan's bedroom, held boxes of Mom's fabric and sewing extras. She had patterns too and used to use her floor to lay out prom dresses for my older sisters. In addition to all that sort of sewing stuff, lived the box of Halloween costumes, the Christmas decoration boxes, and I can't even remember what all else was in there but it was pretty packed full. Back when they built our house in 1948, people didn't have big closets or much of any storage space. Lucky us, this attic space was perfect and very accessible.
Me, on the other hand, I don't have a sewing room either and my Mom's old machine is in our laundry room which is filled with shelves full of storage, plus washer and dryer. So, now over the past 4 years, I have created this teeny tiny sewing nook with my machine, and a wooden shelf, made by a friend decades ago, that has the small boxes for various notions and a large box on top with my small fabric stash. This room was originally part of a garage and so the walls were never completed with dry wall either. I now have these cute little prim dresses hanging on them, plus Farmgirl cards, and various vintage replicas of wash day stuff. I hang a gifted apron as a window curtain and I am continually adding new things. I really love how it looks and when Hubby asked me recently if we should put up dry wall, I told him no. Sometimes, the things you create from just what you have end up being more fun and express more personality that a beautifully finished room. I am big into Make Do thinking because it is a challenge and I can fuel it with my personal interests. Given it's location, it doesn't have to appeal to anyone but me and that is just perfect!! That being said, it isn't a real sewing room that someone would need to be a talented sewer. But since I am not that talented and just make simple stuff, the Make Do option makes sense to me. The only thing I still really need is a small fan because even though the space is air-conditioned, it gets too warm in there during the warmer months. I really want a real vintage fan so I keep holding out until I can find one.

Posted - Jun 27 2020 : 11:54:32 AM I'm glad I have a big stash. It has kept me sewing during this whole flu crisis without having to make trips to the fabric store. Along with yard work it keeps me busy at home and out of trouble. Plus I'm finishing up a lot of UFOs that probably wouldn't have gotten done otherwise.

Posted - Jun 27 2020 : 09:53:08 AM Farmgirls, now I am impressed with your personal lace stashes!!! I have a wonderful friend ,who is an avid sewer, and when she gets more fabric, trims, notions, her reason is " She who dies with the most fabric, wins!" LOL!!! Looks like she has some big competition out there based on these photos and accounts of sewing room stashes!! I love it!
