My neighbor across the street gave me a huge bag of yarn.Bless her heart, she can't see to do much needle work. Well these colors are not as a whole ones I would pick for myself, but I thought I at least could make a big and I mean big afghan for the cupboard in the living room to pull out in the winter. I still have a lot of yarn to use up yet so it will make for a very big blanket when I'M done. Kind of cool here today, so Sunday pot roast.

Posted - Jun 01 2020 : 1:09:51 PM Nancy, I love this idea. I have so many extra pieces left over that I could make me one. I always try to use them for other projects but a random blanket would be very neat.

Posted - Jun 01 2020 : 10:59:42 AM Nancy, I love what you have made with all those colors! The afghan is beautiful and I love that it is nice and big for wrapping up in when the Winter months come back. There is nothing more comforting than a nice afghan to wrap up in with a good book on a road and miserable weather day.

Posted - Jun 01 2020 : 02:08:07 AM I made one years ago to take camping. As I knitted items I would attach the leftover yarn into 3 huge balls then knitted three strands thick. This was to take camping with us. It was so thick and soft that we often used it to soften the ground. We also took it to picnics. Anyway, as the years went by that afghan made it's way around the family. One day my daughter showed up with it and my niece's dog had chewed up a big section of it. She was so pitiful when she asked if I could fix it. Now remember, by then the afghan was probably 10 or 15 years old. I told her "no". It had seen it's last days. (BTW, everyone just called it the ugly afghan) I threw it in the trash can. The next day I went out and low and behold the afghan had been taken out of the trash. I couldn't figure out where in the heck had it gone to? A few days later, I found the afghan. In my husbands trunk. When I asked him way he had removed it from the trash, he commented It's perfect to wrap stuff in to transport so the item doesn't get hurt. Now it's been 25 years and that afghan is still in service. Oh yes, I did make another. It is also loved.
Just thought I'd share

Posted - May 31 2020 : 5:39:19 PM I have one like that my mother made out of bright yarns. It is a huge granny square. I'll find it and post a picture.
