Just out of curiosity, any Cross Stitchers here on the MJF forum?
I know there are a few..
I do so love Cross Stitch,, but my eyes are getting so bad that I just can't devote as much time as I use to.
Most all of my work is done in 14ct.. 11ct kills my eyes..
In fact, I am thinking of buying 10ct to do my 14ct patterns on..
I also find the best time to stitch is earlier in the day when the light is it's strongest or sit outside on a sunny day...
I have the silly hang around your neck, magnifiers as well as a 'OTT-Lite' w/magnifier...
I use to take Cross stitch with me to work to work on during my lunch hour as well as Jury Duty.. but alas,, it may be something I may have to give up...

All that being said,, maybe some of you cross stitchers will share your work and post some pictures here..
I will go dig up some of my small projects to 'show-n-tell' ...

I found my Cross Stitch I did of Neuschwanstein Castle. A lot of work but so worth it.

I'm more of an embroiderer, although I did cross stitch starting out, I like the more fluid lines of hand embroidery! These are my latest creations--because I'm a fantasy nerd

Oh what beautiful work you all are showing. I love to cross stitch too but like you, Grace, had to go to 11 count. I still have a lot of the 14 and 18 count but now make bigger stitches on them as I didn't want to not use them. It's just so relaxing and enjoyable to do. I just wish I could see better. I also use a very bright light and a magnifier. The work goes slower now but I just am not ready to give it up completely yet.

Yes, it is I believe I still have the pattern. Yes, now we are trying to remember where it is as we have already started pack and sorting for our move in March next year. As soon as I put my hands on it I will send as picture. We went to the Castle when we were stationed in Germany in the 80’s.

I loved seeing Neuschwanstein castle when I was in Germany in 2008 (or 2009). Ed and I may see it again this December when we are in Germany. I bet your cross-stitched picture was beautiful.

Debbie - I was not able to cross stitch for several years because of undiagnosed cataracts. Once I had the surgery and my eyes adjusted, I was over joyed to find that I could do it again. Be patient with your body.

I love to cross stitch too but can not do right now because of my eyes. Cataract Surgery Oct. 22 and Nov. 5th. I will not chicken out again.
Anyway in the ‘’80’s and my younger years I cross stitched Bavaria’s Nueschwanstein Castle In Germany. The castle Walt Disney model Cinderella’s Castle after.
I cross stitched it on Navy Blue 10 count fabric. It took me a couple of years and at times I stitched with a light behind the fabric so I could see the little squares on the fabric. When I finished it I took a framing and mat class so I could frame it myself, and I did.
It has been 39 years since I did the piece, and it has always hung in the living room of every house we have owned and it will my next home as well.
It is my most cherished piece, I have never done another project like it and not likely will again. I do smaller pieces when I can.

Here are a few more cross-stitch examples - 2 of my mother's and Halloween one I bought for $3.

This poem is so cute:
HalloweenBrew
Mix a drop of apple cider
with the web of a spider
add a witch's scowl
and a werewolf's howl
drop in a black cat's fright
on a moonlit night
and last but not least
for our holiday feast
remember that ghosts
make great Halloween hosts!!

I think there is a software for printing out cross-stitch patterns. I'm looking for it on line. There are several of the cross-stitched poems on Etsy for sale for $7-15.

I was just thinking,
This could also be printed by hand or computer in a lovely Font and framed with a locket of ones child's strands of hair.

Oh Judith,, that is such a sweet verse..

The one I did is a wee bit different.. wish I had the leaflet with the designer/author's nbame..
I stitched it in 1980 when my daughter was 4 years old.
**********************************
Nothing more precious to keep
In tones of a hue so deep
As soft as a silent prayer
A lock of my baby's hair
I catch it before it lands
And save each shiny strand
A remembrance of one more step
Of my baby's growing up
With in this poem it will be
Lovingly placed for all to see...

It is such a sweet reminder of my days as a young mother.

Found it on scrapbook.com:

A Lock of Hair

(Submitted By: amanda corny)

A lock of hair from a child so
fair,
A miracle from above placed
gently in my care.
This child is growing up so fast.
Tomorrow is the future, today is
the past,
Walking ...talking...fading riddles
and rhymes,
This lock of hair remains a
keepsake of past times.

Krista,,, I have searched high and low,, and can not find the Leaflet/pattern for the 'lock of baby hair poem'..
When we moved in 2017, I pretty much donated all of my stitchery leaflets/booklets.. I only kept a small stash..
I can type up the verse for you and you can get a Alphabet stitchey book to use for the cross stitch poem.

Judith,, awesome that you cherish your mom's hand work and awesome that you finished the one you found..
My mom was never a hand stitcher,, she mostly knitted and quite frankly,, pretty much gave knitting up by the time I was 9-10..
Mom wan't a gardener or craft person but OMG! she was a fabulous cook and loved to sing.
We all have our special talents.

I like to cross stitch and have some hung here in the house and have given quite a few to my Granddaughter who loves vintage. I found quite a few stamped pieces from the 20s-50s on eBay and had fun stitching them for her -- mostly dresser sets, etc. Still have some to do. I have a special one that I found several years ago when we cleaned Dad's house that my Mother had started. Mom passed away in 1997 and this piece was still in a metal hoop --stitching just started on the top corner -- with horrendous rust stains from the hoop. It took many sessions of sunshine and lemon juice to lighten it. Still visible but much better. I'm not sure why she started it as cross stitch was the only form of stitchery that she didn't like. The picture didn't come out so good -- the reflections on the glass make the white bare spots. I can't do counted cross stitch due to eyes that don't work so good.

Linda,,, I Luv the "Don't Rush Me" one! lol!

Your mom did lovely work,,,

I actually kept track of a 5x7 project I did many years ago of a dog chewing on a boot lace.. it took 20hours to complete...can you imagine what that would cost at todays minimum wage??? so your finding that lovely x-stitch for $5 is a great find.
