I bought this quilt at Linens and things 4 years ago. It is falling apart but it is my favorite design. I have no idea why it is falling apart so soon.I have been looking for a year to find something close to what this looks like but no luck. I have sewn a little, costumes, easy curtains, ETC, but does this look like it would be hard to make? Where would I start? Here are a few pictures I took.
Any ideas?

Thank you, The feathers are all embroidered but it looks like they were done by a machine. I think that might be the hardest part. Now that you broke everything down for me, it might not be that hard. Than you so much,

I agree aplique is the way to go Goodluck on your project and I am sure your local quilting store would help with advice also through your process.

Hi Alicia,
Very different quilt. Most of the quilts that are purchased in the stores, unfortunately, are made out of the country and many times the cheaper materials are used. However, I would trace the tree leaf first and add about 1/4 to 1/2 inch seam allowance too. I can't tell if the colors in the tree leaf are alternating or not, but if you think they were pieced together, just cut your traced tree leaf at those places - leaving a seam allowance too. It looks like the leaf vein is embroidered on so that should be pretty easy. You would then need to applique the tree leaf onto a white or off-white block - just measure a block for size and add at least a 1/4" seam allowance. The smaller colored strips between each block look to be a finished 2" in width so you would need to cut at least 2 1/2" (seam allowance included) strips to attach each block together. I can't tell if the blocks are 12" or 14" but you can measure. The long sashing strips (vertical) look like 3" wide strips so with seam allowances you would cut at least 3 1/2" wide strips to the length of your quilt. Just a thought - you could use white on white cotton fabric for the blocks and it will add a nice richness to your new quilt. You could also have it machine quilted to finish it quickly. I'm old fashion and make my quilts completely by hand and quilt by hand - yes, it does take many years for me to finish a quilt. I would also use "only" 100% cotton in your fabrics and I prefer a cotton batting as this combination makes for a really soft and "warm" quilt. Don't look at the whole quilt and become discouraged. Take one block and work on re-creating that one block and the rest will fall into place. Good Luck!!
