I finally got it finished!!!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!

Sunshine is getting a 55 gallon contractor's bag full of fabric just because I cleaned my craft room. I SERIOUSLY downsized my stash. It shall ship in two big boxes wieghing who knows how much. So glad it is clean now, though. It's a load off of my mind.

Oh, you girls...

I bought a mini-vacuum the other day (a new Black and Decker 1800-watt model -- or maybe it was 18 amp? I can't remember) JUST for the express purpose of going down into my craft room in the basement and sweeping up the threads, lint and bugs and things... SO I just came UPSTAIRS instead to see what's up with the Farmgirls, and after I read this, I MUST go down and actually turn the thing on.....and put a few things away...

Your "before" pictures look better than my "now" pictures, I am afraid..... Congratulations on the beautiful job. If you want to come and help me with mine, please consider this a job offer! I figure about 10 days might do it.

Tasha, What a great job! Don't you just love to go in there now? I cleaned and organized in Jan. Now I have trouble coming out to do my regular duties. It's my favorite room.

ENJOY!!

LOL...you are right I am the sewing dummy. She is Andrea!! LOL. She also dresses much better than I do. I just can't resist those too small evening gowns for $2 at the thrift store! LOL

Georgann you are stunning!

Um, I have to say, though, that if I called Valerie a 'sewing dummy' I think she would get me in the night....

Georgann you are very beautiful. Thanks for sharing your craft space with us. It's great to get a glimpse of the personal side of the thread.

Blessings....

I use old luggage for storage too. They are what my sewing dummy is standing on. I keep vacuum attachments in one, and misc in the other.

Oh, and I posted some photos of my crafting space on my blog. Just click the link below if interested. There is also a photo I took of myself today on my blog.

Anyway...

bayoubunch,
What a terrific idea to use old luggage, I to use old luggage as well as decorated type hat boxes. I have an old hard sided (Samsonite)that I decopaged & store my my cross stitch in and I also have an old cosmetic travel case (1960's) that I decopaged as well. I just buy vintage victorian looking gift wrap to decopage both inside & out. For the cosmetic travel case I trimmed the top w/small pearl type trim. It's getting harder to find the old luggage at Thrift Stores, guess I am not the only one who likes to decopage old luggage. bummer.

I guess technically I'm also cleaning my craft room...however my craft room is my dining room.
I have disassembled the piles of crap and I'm in the midst of sorting through and deciding what goes and what stays...and then what stays in the house and what needs to be put in the shed for later.
I've decided I can only have 5 projects in the house at one time (right now there is probably a dozen!)
It's tough work and I hate the huge mess that you make before you finish...

Your room looks great, Tasha. Good job!

Tasha,
I to am at my "desperation point"....to many craft projects, not enough time & to small a room.
During the holidays, when I get my crafting in gear, you can not even see the floor in my room....the cats & I have to make little paths..to get from one side to the other and my husband refers to my craft room as the "kraproom", like he should talk, I have seen his wood working shop!!!! oh well, it's a fun kind of insanity... & it keeps us out of mischief...LOL! We enjoy out projects, helps us destress from our jobs. Speaking of jobs, time to get ready for work.
tata-4-now
oh, & Tasha, feel free to pop on over & organize my room.....You did a great job, if I didn't live so far away I'd bribe you with tea & scones to come over & give my some pointers on how to organize my craft room.

Tasha,
Thank you for the great inspiration. The idea of before & after pictures is good idea.
I need to finish & start a few projects, but maybe I snap a few pics first.

Okay, you inspired me to clean mine. I'm still working on it. I went shopping in my attic and brought down an old clothes hanging rack which is now home to my vintage and sheer fabrics. I didn't like folding and stuffing them in the closet. I don't have a shelving system, so I do put alot of fabrics in plastic bins in the attic after they are washed, and I do have them sorted by season and/or color. I try to rotate seasonal weights into my work room. Gosh I sound so efficient, but I'm really not. I do have to get some skirts made. The shop is waiting patiently for them. With me having the flu last week I'm way behind. And I'm more in the mood to sew skirts and mod bellbottom pants! LOL Anyway, I'll try to snap some shots when I'm done sorting and organizing. Oooo....I tried to talk The Thrifty Quaker into selling me their mannequin today. No such luck! LOL

It took me about a day and a half give or take a few hours for the trip to Brainerd and downtime for eating or tending the kids...

Hey! That's what I'm working on right now, this very minute (okay, I'm taking a break this very minute)... cleaning out my workroom. I have loaded one box of junk in the minivan (without DH's knowledge because it is stuff he would hang on to for a yard sale)and am slowly making my way through more. Great inspiration, Tasha!

I swear the before pictures were taken at my house!
How long did it take you?
Beautiful job, I sure could use some ambition if you have any to spare!

I agree with Tasha--sometimes you have to start fresh, and most of my organizational and cleaning projects start with taking it ALL away and ciphering throught what you need and don't need, organizing that in some fashion, and then putting it back in a method that makes more sense. It can be mercenary, too. My linen and utility closets get it at least once or twice a year--you can't even walk down the hallway, and the urge usually strikes me early evening. My husband is THRILLED as you may well imagine.

I think it looks fab, especially since I have the "before" photos to go on

Just think of all of the roads there are...all of the things I haven't seen....yet.

Just for reference-here are the photos Nancy Jo was talking about....the dreadful 'before' photos...

I am really shocked at the mess I had, as it just is not how I am. I am also shocked that I ever got any crafting done.

It's all better now though :)

Kathy, the best thing I found to do was to COMPLETELY empty the room of everything. You should have seen my livingroom. It had a seriously HUGE mountain of fabric in the middle surrounded by all the little things. I didn't take out any of the furniture form the room, but just moved it to where I wanted it as I went and we put the shelves together as I needed them. I think I am going to go back and get one more so that I have a shelf system for all of my jarred products and for my midwifery program materials.
