Posted - Sep 14 2017 : 06:05:01 AM I've been teaching classes in knitting for the last ten years or so. I often have to help my students change a pattern in order for something to fit properly, etc. I fell in love with a pattern on Ravlery. The yarn it uses is an alpaca - super soft (a bit pricey but I had a gift card from a birthday present to use). The pattern was for a long scarf with a ruffle. I had enough yarn to go past the 7 inch width, making it into a wrap instead. I was going to make it a little bigger, but ended up doubling it (not really on purpose, just kept "zen" knitting, I guess). The yarn is black with silver bits - perfect for a bit of everyday glitz or for the holidays! I am so glad I kept going. I love how it turned out. Happy accident. Don't you love that in knitting you can personalize your projects by changing yarn/colors/style? It's so satisfying when it turns out the way you envision. I am so glad I bought extra yarn balls.
Who else knits? What did you change that you LOVE how it turned out?

Posted - Sep 15 2017 : 10:40:36 AM I only crochet right now, but I want to learn to knit. Even with my crochet projects I always find myself making changes. It's either to make the project look more to my liking or fit better. But I agree the changes are good things. That's what makes them yours!

Posted - Sep 15 2017 : 06:51:48 AM I agree, Christine! I haven't gotten brave enough to change a sewing pattern yet, though. I wish i could sew like my grandmother, she could take an old man's suit, make a dress out of it, and look like a movie star! Enjoy your day, too Christine! Hugs!

Posted - Sep 15 2017 : 06:01:55 AM Hi Christine, Yes, I do the same. Knit sew, and crochet. My favorite is knitting, I can say I am a master at that. Funny I just kept going but I had the yarn, so I thought, "Why Not?" I always tell my students if they make a mistake, "It's not a mistake, just your interpretation of the pattern?" You are so right - Love happy accidents!

Posted - Sep 14 2017 : 09:56:53 AM Hi Nicole! I knit, crochet and sew. LOVE all three. I've changed patterns often. I find that I change them to properly fit my daughter. It usually is a "happy accident"!!
