Since you are our resident expert on all things "francais", here goes. My friend is traveling to France and will be staying for a month or so, I think the Provance area. The last trip she made, she said she had difficulty finding yarn stores or the equivalent of a crafty store. Do you have any suggestions on where to look for needlework supplies. She would rather buy new stuff in France than tote all her supplies on the plane.

Thanks!

I'm heading south for the winter. Some parts of my body already have a head start!

Thanks so much for your quick response! I have the names of the villages -- I have NO idea where any of these places are, so I will just rattle off some names:

She is staying in the village of LaCoste, but will also be in Bonnieux on a regular basis.
The closest large city is Apt -- I'm guessing that is not short for apartment! ;-D
Will also be flying in to Marseilles.

Your life sounds so romantic - living in two countries and a french hubby, to boot!

Sandy

Hey, gal pal, or should I say "bonjour"? I agree unfortunately with your friend's assessment of craft type stores being scarce as hens' teeth. Believe me, I tote my favorite knitting needles and cram some yarn in my suitcase every time we head back for France. Especially now because we can knit in airports and on the plane, with wooden needles. The small village we live in (about 7000 residents) actually HAS a yarn store that I have not been in yet. My favorite yarn shop is in Perpignan; imagine a store about the size of a 7-11 COMPLETELY full to the ceiling!!! Also while walking around Montpelier last summer I happened to glance down the narrow street and see a sign that read "DMC", well I left my husband and his granddaughter in the dust!! When your friend gets here, she can use the yellowpages to look for shops, too. I will have to think of the headings (one might be "textiles"), and post again later on. I have also seen neat needlework shops that have everything from quilting supples to cross stitch. When I saw a neat idea in a craft mag that involved modeling clay, I asked hubby where we might find it. I remembered a hobby store in a nearby town and knew they would have it. But he took me to a nicely stocked craft store, like a mini-Michael's that had stuff for stamping, scrapbooking, beadwork, silk flowers, AND exactly what I was looking for.

Lucky friend, we are hoping to take a day(ortwo) trip to Provence probably late June or early July for the lavender harvest. When you know the name of the town/area/village your friend will be in, post again or email me and I will research a few cool spots for her to try!! We farmgirls gotta stick together. Have a great day! Nance.
