My cousin and I spent the weekend painting a mural in my son't room. It is a work in progress but I wanted to post some pictures. It was really fun, a pain in the butt, but fun! Now if only we can get him to sleep in there.

Sorry to here you might have to move and leave that wonderful mural behind. Here's a thought for anyone who is in temporary housing or would like to be able to take the mural with you. Attach a large canvas to the wall, prime, gesso and paint. Attach a little molding around the outer edge and no one is the wiser! Or something I saw in a design house was hollow core doors made into a folding screen configuration and then painted to match the rooms theme. They were secured to the walls with L brackets so no fear of toppling over either! Both ideas are portable and flexible for a new space. Take lots of pictures for Seth's memory book if you have to move. At 13 my son still asks about the house he "came home" to.

Hi Jessica-
I haven't done anything else yet. I found some great rainforest photography books from the library for inspiration thouhg. I want to do some big pitcher plants and more bugs and birds. But, the house we live in (not ours, it is a bater as a nanny position for a couple's son) is being shown by a realtor tomorrow. I'm very sad, especially about that mural, my son loves it. We'll see what happens. But I don't think I'll be painting anymore until I know just how long we'll be here. Yhe thought of it getting painted over beekas my heart. Oh well...

Have you done anymore work on this? I did something similar at my old house and I recently found out it has all been painted over. I love it.

WOW! What an artist you are, Megan, and what a lucky boy Seth is to be able to sleep in the great jungle every night. I can just imagine his imagination running wild and free there..what a lucky little boy!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Megan,
That is so wonderful! You are so talented! I love painting and have always wanted to paint murals for the kids, but we STILL are not in our permanent house yet - hopefully really soon!
Tasha, love to see yours when it is done.
Best wishes,
Jayne

I am planning a cloud. I am going to paint some faeries and rainbows and glitter etc. but the whole room shall be a cloud. It was that or make it look like the walls of a small house since that is where the girls play house with their kitchen and table and itty bitty couch...

Zoe has a huge faerie sitting on a mushroom with butterflies swirling around her-I painted with when I was about 7 months pregnant with her.

Grace's is in progress as she has quite an extensive mural that she picked out. It is a fearie for each of the colors of the rainbow and they are dancing and swirling ribbons...it's very pretty. I will take a photo when I am done. I don't have a photo of Zoe's wall on this computer so I will have to take a picture....Will do that later today....:D

Thanks everyone! I want to add more animals, especially fun little things like bugs, tree frogs, chameleons. On the other side of the room we might do a waterfall and some big animals like a gorilla gathered around in the reading nook corner. I hope he will love it for a long time because I don't think I could bear to paint over it! Yeah, I'd love to see some other murals if anyone else has them. Tasha, what are you planning in the playroom?

Just fabulous! I have a friend who did the same theme in her son's room about 10 years ago. It is still there and they are 24 and 19!! I can see yours having the same effect on your son- he won't want it to go!!

OH WOW!!! That is amazing!! The girls have murals in their rooms too, but not that extensive. The mural I plan in the playroom is extensive, however. That is simply stunning!

Now, THAT'S impressive, Megan!! WOW!!! Your son is a lucky guy! It looks like something on TY Pennington's Extreme Home Improvement show. You guys have such talent! You say it's a work in progress. What else are you going to paint?
