Posted - Jun 23 2017 : 10:31:40 AM So after seeing fabric pennant banners in several antique/up-cycled stores, I decided I NEEDED these in my home. I've been making them during my free moments lately and I'm kind of obsessed with them. They're just so cute! I wanted to share what I've done so far. Next up is a larger banner than what I've already done, which will stretch across the opening between our dining room and living room.
This area is a corner of my dining room and it's my prayer space. It's where I light my candles to welcome in Shabbat on Friday night at sundown and say the Havdalah blessings when Shabbat ends on Saturday at sundown. (I also made the Star of David wall-hanging.)
This is the hallway.
This is the patriotic banner I made for our front porch.
A close-up!

Posted - Jun 28 2017 : 7:40:20 PM Okay, ladies - I'm done. The final pennant is made and up! It's above the opening from the dining room to the living room. (Notice my GORGEOUS art piece in the corner of the dining room. It was made by a local metal artist and I totally fell in love with it and bought it, even if it barely fit in my house. Directly across from it is my prayer corner.)
(Oh, and the blue backed posters on my dining room walls are a series of War Worker posters produced in 1943 by the US Public Health Service. They feature "Jenny on the Job" and show all the ways Jenny is a dedicated, hard-working woman who takes care of herself).

Posted - Jun 28 2017 : 7:36:16 PM Sara, I think the very first pennant banner I ever saw was on a British program, actually! I think it was a program about the British homefront during World War II. So yes, we're more similar than we realize!

Posted - Jun 27 2017 : 12:51:10 PM Rachel, last night on PBS out of Dallas I watched a British show on their villages. During the show I saw a pastel pennant banner on a brick cottage; a darker color one strung between two trees; and a long one with multi colors hung on a large building. When I saw the banners I thought of your post and the pennant swaps. I guess FarmGirls aren't too different from our British village cousins.

Posted - Jun 27 2017 : 12:27:06 PM Thanks, everyone! I'm working on my final banner now, which will be about 12 feet long. Then I will need to stop making banners because I will have run out of room (except I'm considering one for my deck made of outdoor/weather resistant fabrics). I can't stop. Ahhh!!! ;)
