Posted - Feb 03 2017 : 10:29:58 AM I was trolling around on pinterest when I stumbled across this cute re-purposing idea...
an apron made from a pillowcase...
looks pretty simple,,, cut open (down the stitched side)the pillowcase.. cut a wider pc for the waistband, cut 2 pc for the ties and the remaining pc is the apron skirt. then just stitch up like a regular apron... I think the name of the blogger is the 'humblethimble.blogspot'... I The blog didn't give measurements just these images... but should be fairly easy to make... 'Sew now I am off to see if I have a spare pillowcase... if not,,, off to the Thrift I go....weather permitting! lol!

Posted - Mar 10 2017 : 5:08:50 PM oh Nancy~jo,,, here is a really easy idea: holding the pillow case up to you,,, decide how long/short you want it and then cut off the top(closed side),,, then cut open the pillow case down the seamed side... fold over the top (where you cut the excess off) and sew a casing (like a curtain casing where the rod goes through... take the piece you cut off,,, make/cut 2 pieces that will be folded in half length wise and stitch together (think of it as 1 really long tie)... run the tie through the casing,,, now hold the apron on yourself,,, gather to size you like and then pin into place... now stitch/tack the corner where the tie comes out of the casing... deco it w/a yoyo or button on each side... hope that makes since... but it is supper easy...

Oh and fyi.... I used a queen size pillow case for my apron but a standard would would work as well... (had fabric left over...to make more yoyos with)...

Posted - Mar 09 2017 : 5:32:20 PM What a cute and clever idea! Your apron turned out so pretty too!! This would make an awesome gift if you wanted to use it for the Jubilee weekend and wrap it around some sort of baked bread or cookies. I bet there are a gazillion decent pillowcases at thrift stores what would create darling new aprons. Thanks for sharing!!

Posted - Mar 03 2017 : 7:49:01 PM oops! forgot to post the rest of the pics...
I added the button on the yoyo as an after thought....
I used a hankie for the pocket,,, did a little creative folding and stitching to keep the integrity of the hankie...
I decided to use contrasting fabric for the waistband..... What an easy peasy apron project.

Posted - Feb 03 2017 : 9:38:27 PM Linda,,, for sure a good idea.. creating a "caseing" at the top of the skirt/apron... stitch the 2 ties, end to end (making 1 very long tie) and then run them through the casing and then you could tack down (and embellish w/a button or yoyo at each end opening) to keep the waist in place.

Posted - Feb 03 2017 : 7:29:16 PM Neat idea, Grace. If you leave the top of the pillowcase sewn together, and press under the cut edges 1/2" or so, you can then gather the skirt piece and insert it INTO the top section. Then you can add the ties and Viola! an apron. LOL! I wasn't sure if she did it that way or opened up the top section, too.

Posted - Feb 03 2017 : 6:45:39 PM Thanks Grace. Looks like next Christmas everyone will get an apron. LOL. We have a store that often sells a pair for $2.99. Good idea for a craft fair! Oh no another thing to get addicted to. No wonder I never sleep.Yikes!
