Can any of you make recommendations of good sites to buy fabric on line. Since my local Wal Mart is closing out its fabric department pickins are slim. So I need to start looking for other sources. The nearest fabric store to me is 30 miles away.
Thanks
Kathy

Our local Hancock Fabric store is closing down...so I have to go over to the next town to the JoAnn's Fabric or to yet another town to good old "WallyWorld" (Wal-Mart)to buy fabric. Over the hill in Camarillo there is a Fabric store called Barons, but it is a bit pricey. I remember years (many) ago when I could buy fabric & patterens affordably...now patterens are very pricey as is fabric. That is why I have been shopping Thrift Stores for old clothing etc., that I can repurpose....and I have more fun to boot!

Thankyou to everyone who contributed to this thread. Since I am stuck home, I am shopping for Easter Dress fabric on-line. I just love the Repodepo link!

I asked my Wally-world craft dept lady today if the rumors were true. She said that the corp is phasing out ALL craft fabric depts within the span of three years. That particular Wal-mart is allowed to still order supplies so she knows they are not clearing out immediately; but that is really all she knows.

Well, I try hard not to shop at WallyWorld, but I admit fabric is one area where I will make an exception...it will really stink if they close that section here...the only other fabric stores are Ben Franklin and some specialty quilting shops...I don't have the $$$ to buy fabric there!
Dang, are they closing out the yarn selection, too?

Try www.eQuilter.com I have used them for several years now, great fabrics, all designs, novelity designs, everything you might need. Also, www.quiltshops.com - type in what your looking for in the item search, and the shops that have it will come up! Like cats/dogs/dots/reds/cowboys etc!

Enjoy!

I asked the head of the sewing department of our local Wal-Mart about this and she told me that she had heard that some of the stores would eliminate the fabric but not all. Personally, I stopped buying any print fabric from Wal-Mart several years back because it bled really bad in a lap quilt that I had made. It really upset me to no end. If I stick with white fabric from them, no problem. Maybe some shops will open up now with excellent quality at reasonable prices.

I was just wondering if all of us who like to sew would call 1-800-WALMART and tell them how disappointed we are if it would help. The thing that really bothers me is that there were two fabric shops here before Wal Mart decided to come and they weren't able to compete so they have been closed for several years now.

For those interested, I just heard on the radio, yesterday, that it is official...WAL MART will no longer be selling fabric aftr 4-1-07. I was hoping that it just wasnt true.

Does anyone know where you can buy white/off white linen to make and embroider for table runners, tablecloths, napkins? Or do you just buy these and then embroider?

Just found this website: www.bearpawquilting.com
Thank heaven my credit card is upstairs and I'm too tired to go up and get it! Great prices on discontinued, bolt ends, fat quarter bundles, etc. Example is fat quarter bundle of 10 pieces, blue assortment = $11.00 Other recognized name brand fabrics were $5.99 a yard.

I have not done business with this company, so cannot personally recommend it. It was a link from a reproduction quilter who is on the Early American Life registry of craftspersons.

I'd get a face lift - but then it wouldn't match my body!

I like www.reprodepot.com Great selection and quality.

Also, I'm bidding on ebay for some fabrics I've been looking for -- including Amy Butler and Jane Sassaman. Lots of great fabric sellers there and good service. Just don't bid against me! :)

For fashion fabrics I always buy from www.fashionfabricsclub.com

It's $10 per year to join, but the fabric is really incredible and the savings is amazing. I bought a stunning linen there for $5.25 per yard that I saw at our local mom-and-pop fabric store later for $15.00 per yard.

The selection changes all the time though, because it's mostly closeouts, so if you see something you love buy it right away (still wincing over losing out on a beautiful tencel print that I didn't get enough of).

Best,

Robin

You could also try eBay. Lots of great sellers there that have fabric stores. The quality of fabric has gotten so inferior at Wal-Mart that it wouldn't bother me if ours closed. The only thing that I'd miss is the interfacing for my purses.
