Posted - Jan 06 2007 : 3:36:06 PM I want to make some heart sachets but my drawing talents? well I don't have any. If I can find a heart pattern how much extra should I leave around the edge when I cut it out. My hearts in the past are all wacky shaped when they are sewn together. Have no problem with squares. Posted - Jan 07 2007 : 10:07:18 AM Clare -- thank you so much for the tip about sewing the heart! I always end up with funny looking hearts after they're sewn. I'm going to give this one a try.

Posted - Jan 07 2007 : 08:54:46 AM Hi Nancy
Here's another helpful suggestion. Putting in a muslin liner helps keeps your filling material from seeping or working its way out of the seams. A long long time ago I worked for a company that made healing hearts stuffed with lavendar. At one point I was sewing 300 or more hearts a week. After a year and a half I didn't want to look at another heart. LOL
Take care.

Posted - Jan 07 2007 : 07:48:10 AM clip curves means to take little cuts in to the fabric perpandicular to the seams on the curves to give easement of the fabric so the curves can bend nicely and lay flat other wise they tend to pucker. A long time ago some people called this pinking the seams. there is a drawing of clipped curves at this site http://www.domestic-church.com/CONTENT.DCC/20000701/FRIDGE/makingdress.htm

Posted - Jan 07 2007 : 05:40:29 AM Nancy, one way to ensure an even heart is to sew RIGHT ON THE LINE for the heart. Then, trim around it, clip curves, turn and stuff. Just trace on a square piece of doubled fabric, pin around the seam as usual and sew. It is MUCH easier.

Posted - Jan 07 2007 : 03:09:02 AM Bramble, No, I probably would stuff it from the top, which is one reason they always look so bad. So Thanks for the reminder not to do that. Sunshine, what do you mean clip the curves? clip into the material then sew along side the clip? NANCY JO

Posted - Jan 06 2007 : 8:56:44 PM Nancy- Don't forget to leave the flat side of the heart open if you are going to stuff it. That is much easier to slip stitch than any other part! You probably already knew that but maybe someone else didn't!

Posted - Jan 06 2007 : 4:45:15 PM Hey Nancy -- try going online and google hearts. Bet you can find something on a kid's craft site. That's what I did last year.

Posted - Jan 06 2007 : 3:56:03 PM Hi Nancy, Usually ya use a 1/8 inch seam allowance. If you'd like I can draw one out for ya and get it in Monday's mail. How big would you like it to be? Lu
