Posted - Dec 18 2006 : 11:22:06 AM Have you heard of this great program from Save the Children for knitting caps to send to infants in need around the world AND make your voice heard in Washington that we need to do more to help these babies and families? I'm knitting three hats and invite you to join me. They're teeny tiny and don't take very long. All of the info is on my blog. Get your friends together for a Saturday morning coffee and knit up some hats to send off together. What a great thing to do at the end of the year - and in the spirit of Christmas giving!

Posted - Dec 20 2006 : 10:21:42 AM Jennifer, we have a really strong Knitters' Connection here in MN and I think it literally just spread by word of mouth and at local Stitch 'n B*tch gatherings (a whole bunch of knitters at my weekly Tuesday night gathering were working on them last night!). But don't let Minnesota's numbers get you down that your states can't compete! Go on! BEAT US!! After all, it's all for a good cause!

Posted - Dec 20 2006 : 09:26:13 AM PS, check out the interactive map on the Save the Children website to see how may caps have been sent from your state so far. Way to go, Minnesota - leading the pack with 601 caps so far. MN farmgirls, do you if there was a school project or the like going on? |

Posted - Dec 18 2006 : 10:27:02 PM I just read the information about this project - it sounds so wonderful. When I think of cold little heads being covered in caps lovingly made by women all over the nation, it brings tears to my eyes. Those soft little babies - they ALL deserve a good life, don't they? I get so frustrated when I think of all of the hurt in the world it's hard not to get overwhelmed. Thanks, Catherine, for letting us know how we can take a concrete step to help...I'll start one right away.
XOXO, Libbie

Posted - Dec 18 2006 : 2:12:48 PM Catherine, I've been stuck in the house with a broken foot since September, so have had a LOT of time on my hands. Literally. |

Posted - Dec 18 2006 : 1:35:37 PM Ohmygosh you guys are awesome! Way ahead of me. You know, I had heard about this program back in the fall, but I guess it takes a looming deadline for me to really get going. Your numbers of hats make my goal of three sound so small! Twenty-five hats is so great Jennifer! Susan, it's so cool that you did this too. I'm still going to jump in with my three (or maybe more now, you've inspired me further!) and get them sent off right away. Just figuring out which yarns to use. I'm going to do mine in the round too...I hate seams!

Posted - Dec 18 2006 : 1:06:48 PM Catherine, it's a wonderful program. I knit a bunch and sent them along earlier this fall. So fun to knit fast little hats and know that they will be keeping tiny heads warm somewhere in the world!
