Hi ladies! I wanted to share my very first embroidery project. Ever. At 28 years old
My friend and I were at JoAnn's fabrics and I saw the hoops, the flour sack towels, and chicken transfers and thought to myself "WHY NOT?" so here we are. It's a work in progress, obviously. My test run.
I got a children's embroidery book from the library and it explained the stem stitch one way... (those would be the sloppy bits), and the transfers had a little guide that explained it differently and it was like the lightbulb turning on.
Anyway, I really love it, imperfections and all. I didn't realize how relaxing and meditative it could be. And in starting this, I learned my Gramma Karen used to embroider and she's all excited I took an interest. Kind of funny how that works.

find one you like... and with a fabric tracing pencil... put the page on a sunny window.. lay your fabric over the image and trace.... then have fun stitching...
Oh and you can do/stitch an entire design in one color (red work)...
Have fun...

That's a great idea! I have a Celtic coloring book. That might be fun. AND challenging!

Thanks ladies! I picked a pretty variegated color so I wouldn't have to keep switching and could focus on the stitches.
And I love me some chickens! Classic kitchen decor. They'll match my cookie jars, milk pitcher, cutting board... salt and pepper shakers... Ha ha

My father's mother was an expert embroiderer. She taught me and I have expanded to crewel, candle wicking, cross stitch and ribbon embroidery. I use it on quilt blocks and on some of my crochet pieces. But I will tell you, nothing makes doing dishes more enjoyable as a beautifully embroidered dish towel.

Very Nice! Like your choice of colors. Chickens and embroidery are made for each other.
