I made three crocheted snow flakes, now what is the best way to make them stiff?

Boy this is an old post! Lets see as I remember I just made it up as I went along. Then when I had a bunch of them done I needed to know how to make them stiff. I used white glue with a little water and I think I put glitter on some of them.
Karin hope you got that nap you needed and are a bit more steady on your feet now.

I have always wondered what was the best method for stiffening up those snowflakes, and now I have a couple choices i didn;t know about- what a treat, I love this forum, I learn something new every day, thought i am so forgetful sometimes I think I better start learning several new things every day.

Does the elmer's glue/water solution work for colored crochet thread? I have some tatting edging that I want to stiffen up for a sampler.

No, it's probably damp where you are right now, and I lay mine on wax paper or freezer paper. It will turn out beautiful I'm sure! Glitter....I bet that's a beauty!

I made a real pretty one and put glitter on it. Its been all day and still not dry, is this normal? Hope this isn't going the way of my paper snow flakes. not pretty good.
Put a picture on my blog of a tablecloth my aunt made for me, plus a few other pictures.

You can also use modge podge put the glue or what ever type you pick spread it all over the item. then get a piece of foam core cover this with plastic wrap like used in cooking. Use strait pins and pin down snow flakes in desired shape let dry remove from plastic wrap good to hang and store. If it is something that you put startch on you should never store crochet pieces startched that is just asking bugs to eat itand it makes it brittle and the tend to break. If you can find PVA glue ( poly vinyl accitate) this white glue stays flexible when dry it woun't turn yellow and won't be brittle but will stillv ery much hold its shape.

Yes, I have made hundreds of crocheted ornaments, and it works beautifully. Stays white, and nice and stiff. Bugs won't tend to chew either as with starch. I think you would be happy with the results.

Nancy Jo, I use plain old Elmers glue mixed with water about 2/3 glue 1/3 water, on wax paper pinned out. Let dry. Doesn't turn yellow and stays stiff for years and years. Just don't put in an attic! Starch seems to yellow. Just my opinion!
