10/03/15: See posts and pictures for TWO PINS that are available!
One is APPLE wood, the other is APRICOT . . . they are wonderful!
Thanks for looking!
CJ

My hubby is a woodturner and an excellent one at that. He's also a good cook! Just recently he's decided to make his own pasta, which meant he wanted a suitable rolling pin. Well, he just went to his shop, found some oak and turned himself a pin on his lathe.

THEN, he decided it needed a protective sleeve, so he comes to me, his apronista seamstress wife and asks if I can make a sleeve. Okay, so I did, out of chili pepper print fabric.

Well, that wasn't enough . . . he decided he needed to turn more pins to give as gifts to some friends and his brother. So, here came two more oak pins and one from mesquite (larger diameter).

So I made covers for them all . . .pizza print for the one for his brother and the neighbor guy who is Italian and a chef. The mesquite pin is for a friend who we call the "cookie queen". What better print for her pin than chocolate chip cookies!

I don't think he's finished making pins . . .
What a guy! He's good at what he does!

I am blessed to have one of these gorgeous rolling pins! It is BEAUTIFUL, and the weight is perfect. CJ - I will treasure it AND my cover for many, many years to come! Thank you so much to Bill and you! I love that my cover matches my apron! :) <BTW - my hubby thinks every woman should have one at the ready in case there's an intruder. Nobody stands a chance against a whack with one of these babies! LOL!) Hugs - Nini

P.S. Hard to get a great photo but mesquite is shades of rich reddish wood and had great contrast in the knots, etc.

Those your husband makes are really neat. I have a rolling pin from Finland and it is tapered - larger (about 2") for about 4 inches in the middle and tapering to about 1" diameter on both ends. Has anyone else used one like that?

Oh, CJ! I'm IN! I will email you later tonight - getting ready to make dinner here in a minute. My cousin used a flat rolling pin like that to make his homemade tortillas, and I thought how great that would also be for making homemade noodles and pie crusts and...everything! LOVE them! Thank you! Hugs - Nini

Nini,
I don't know that he'll be selling them on the website, but he will sell them! As you can see they don't have separate or tapered handles. He made them like the ones a lot of pasta chefs use. The one he made for himself and his brother (sticking out of the chile pepper cover) is 24 inches long and 1 3/4 inches in diameter. The one for the "cookie queen" is 18 inches long and diameter is 2 inches. I made the covers to fit from whatever fabric I have that I think works for the individual.

If you're interested, let me know and about what size you think you'd like . . . then we can give you a price.

They ARE great gifts!
Thanks much!

Thanks Linda!
They do make great gifts. I just used a length of extra-wide, double fold bias tape, sewing the ends and the edges together, fold in half and sew into the seam.
