Recently I was presented with the opportunity to repurpose a sweet vintage table cloth into, not 1 but 2 aprons..

A MJF girl purchased the table cloth at her dear friends parents Estate Sale.
I had fun deciding what type of aprons to make and am glad that now both MaryJo and her friend will have repurposed aprons with sentimental value.

this is the pattern I used for the full apron,,, I decided to line the fabric with sweet fabric which now makes the apron reversible.

stitching it up on my little FeatherWeight machine.

and the half apron...

and yes,,, as always,,, a yoyo or two...

the fabric on the pocket was the back side fabric...
Thank you MaryJo for letting me be part of the new history of these aprons and thank you for your sweet "Jack in the Pulpit" photo card...

Here are 2 of the aprons I finished this past weekend. I happened on a pair of lime green coveralls at a thrift shop several years back and finally got around to finishing the 2 aprons out of them. I cut the legs off and then started doing a little remaking. They already had embroidered yellow and white flowers on them.

The front had a bib pocket and the 2 front side pockets; all I had to do to this one was sew the shorter legs together, hem the sides, add an eyelet ruffle to the bottom, add grosgrain ribbon ties, make a strap for the neck out of the remaining leg fabric, and add buttons to the strap. (There were already 2 buttonholes on the bib.) For the apron from the coveralls back, I added a bib pocket from the embroidered bottom of one of the removed legs, added grosgrain ribbon ties, made 2 buttonholes on one strap to match the 2 buttons on the other strap, and hemmed around. I wish I could find more colorful overalls like these. I love the way the aprons turned out.

Here is the latest apron I just finished.

It is a bloomers apron. What do you think? I found the pattern in a quilt book I had.

I love making aprons. I have lots of patterns I have never used, but I bought them because they were the retro look. LOL! I have a tablecloth now to make an apron. Can't wait to get started.

And some of the smaller embroidered pieces make great pockets!

when I use vtg. re-purposed table covers I line them so the thread work (knots etc) don't show.
I luv having 'cutters' for re-purposing.

I love that fabric. I have so many of my mom's tablecloths and now I know what to use some for. I have thought about making dishtowels and stitching on them. Need to get a fire lit here and get a move on!

Love, Love, Love them! I never thought to use a table cloth. I'll have to keep that in mind next time I go visit my grandpa. I know my grandma had lots of table cloths and this would be a wonderful way to use them!!! Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring :)

I bought the pattern at the "Ben Franklin' store in Cheney Washington,,, sadly the store has since gone out of business :>(
[you can google 'Jan Lutz apron patterns" to see what is still available].

I did some modification to the apron pattern, I made the neck tie adjustable rather than a permanent attached on,, I made a 'loop' on one side so you can run the tie through it and tie it to fit.
For the 1/2 apron, there was no waist band,,, I added a waist band and pleated the fabric into the band...
Sometimes I just can't follow the rules,,, and yes I also run with scissors! snork, giggle...
