You may already do this, but several years ago while trying to teach my GRANDDAUGHTERS to embroidery, I tried this. I cut a piece of low loft quilt batting to put behind their piece of fabric. I pinned them altogether with safety pins, then put the hoop on. I now do this with all of mine. And guess what, it is easy to work with and you cannot see all of those thread tails.
