Posted - Apr 24 2015 : 11:42:20 AM Ok, I have a huge container full of UFO's...
So when we have a dreary drab weather day here in the mountains,,, do I go to the container of UFO's to work on one??? Oh Heck No! I start a new project!!!!
But I must confess.. I did use up some scrap fabrics.. so that is my justification...

jeans apron #3 (you can go to my katmom blog to see/read) Sometimes you just need to work on small projects to feel like you have accomplished something... I haven't decided if I will put the B&W apron in my trailer or the denim one... or both!

Posted - Aug 04 2015 : 06:39:17 AM Shannon - I've used my serger for adding the ruffles together at the bottom, but for the trims at the sides and for attaching the skirt to the denim I usually use my machine. I don't want the serger to have to go through too many thicknesses of denim.
Using the tops of older jeans is a great way to recycle.

Posted - Aug 04 2015 : 06:33:56 AM Thanks Linda! I'm going to have to try it! My serger seems to be a pretty tough cookie, and I have needles for my regular machine for thicker material that are more heavy duty... I just cannot imagine breaking one of my machines and going without, lol. I always seem to shy away from using jean material...

I sew on jeans all the time for aprons with no problems. I use various sewing machines. Sometimes sewing across the triple-thickness seams are more difficult and I've broken a needle, but that's not often.

Posted - Aug 04 2015 : 05:45:33 AM Those are so cute! Is jean material hard to sew? Can you use a regular sewing machine and/or serger? I am always worried that the thicker material will kill my machine :/

Posted - Aug 03 2015 : 5:02:48 PM Love making aprons - and finding new ideas for them. And, Kat, I agree with you - I usually have good intentions of finishing UFOs, but most are quilts and are time consuming. I'd rather finish lots of smaller projects instead of one large project.

Posted - Apr 25 2015 : 9:55:11 PM Oh Nini, the denim one was sew easy peasy,, it was the back side of a pair of jeans,, I just bias seamed the side edge, and added 3 rows of gathered fabric/ruffle and for the Tie/sash I just stitched up one long tie/sash and ran the sash through the belt loops... I have a Serger sewing machine, so I serger all the raw edges.

Posted - Apr 24 2015 : 11:46:32 AM I forgot to mention,,, the pink apron and the B&W apron are from the pattern posted here on the MJF forum,,, In the 'Jubilee' thread... It's an easy peasy apron pattern and great use of scrap fabric... as you can see, I modified it a bit to accommodate the scrap fabric I had... And as always,, yep, a 'yoyo' or two will always be found on my aprons...
