Posted - Nov 17 2006 : 8:26:05 PM Okay, farmgirls - the lower thread on my sewing machine keeps knotting up in big, loose, broken-threaded loops under the material. Do any of you more experienced seamstresses out there know what might be causing this and what I should do to fix it?
I was right in the middle of an apron! Argh!!!![](icons/icon_smile_sad.gif)
XOXO, Libbie

Posted - Nov 19 2006 : 3:26:45 PM I love to sew too. A couple more loopy doo causes: Be sure to check that your bobbin is unwinding in the proper direction. I have put my bobbin thread in backwards and have had that loopy problem before. Also it is important to hold light tension on the threads when you take your first few stitches, or else the top thread can get pulled to the underside and then, there ya go.....loopy doo's again!
I LOVES ME SOME SEWING!!!!

Posted - Nov 18 2006 : 06:39:13 AM I too have found that sometimes, change your needle out, if you accidently hit one, or it gets a burr on it, that can cause problems. I go by the 10 bobbin rule. I fill 10 same color bobbins for (quilting),(piecing) and when I have used all 10 bobbins, I dust out, oil, clean and check my needle. That way, I don't forget to check that bobbin area out. We sometimes never do clean it out. Growing up, my parents purchased a little Kenmore sewing machine for me. For years, I didn't do any kind of maintenance. It did work for over 27 years. But now that I had to spend my own money (lot's of it) on a new machine, I really keep up with all that stuff! Same with my serger. I clean often!
Anyway, sew glad you got it figured out, because when I can't sew - look out!
Happy Thanksgiving, and blessing to you all, gloria g. Richards, TX

Posted - Nov 18 2006 : 06:04:41 AM I have found that it is smart to always check the top thread before I panic. That is usually the problem! Enjoy the apron! |

Posted - Nov 17 2006 : 8:33:55 PM tension, or you need to do a little maintenance....brush out the fuzz, do a little oiling....chck your bobbin holders fittings and make sure nothing is loose. Mine does that when I need to do maintenance on it...hope it helps!
