I have a very old chandelier. The wiring has been stripped out, and I would love to make it into a hanging candle holder for my porch. The problem is, it is very brittle. I'm wondering if there is something I can cover it with, or spray onto it, to make the metal stronger. Any ideas??

Peg, uber cute idea!

Yes,,, spray paint it... and then epoxy teacups w/saucers onto the bulb holder... and then place those lil battery operated tea lights in the tea cups (I find them at the "Dollar" type stores).....

try a clear coat spray sealer ... should work through the good weather, you may have to respray a few times a year. I have done it with my wood signs I hang out in the yard ...

I really like your chandelier Peg!

The problem with mine is I like how it looks already. It's old, it has a patina thing going on, it's a little shabby-chic. I don't really want to cover that up. It's just so brittle. If it hits anything it breaks. We have a lot of windy days so I don't think it would last long on the porch :( I guess I could try it anyway. It's doing me absolutely no good sitting in my attic right now.

Peg, your chandelier is beautiful - love the mason jars.
