Hi everyone,
I love knitting socks and I was wondering what yarn you have used/would recommend? So far, I have just bought Opal, as I can get it quite cheaply from a place on ebay here. But I was looking at the Simply Sock Yarn website and the Cherry Tree Hill and Fleece Artist yarns look lovely. Has anyone used either of these? The one problem with the internet - you can't touch them!!
Happy knitting all,
Jayne

Thank you so much, everyone! I love sock yarn, but just didn't want to outlay too much money and end up with something itchy - my kids can't stand itchy wool. I'll try Knitpicks too, but now I'll know which ones are good if I see any on ebay.
I've mainly been using those self-striping yarns, but hubby prefers solid colours.
Can't wait for that sock yarn swap next year - we definitely have to make sure that gets up and running!!
Happy knitting!

Love sock yarn=~)

I've used Opal, Lorna's Laces, several Regia's, Trekking, Cascade Fixation, and many more. I forget some of them. I like Lorna's Laces and I'm making a pair with some Regia that is wool and silk that's yummy. I also liked the Fixation yarn. I've made several pair out of that because one of my sisters and one of my daughters are both allergic to wool. I think I have some Cherry Tree Hill in my stash too but haven't used it yet.

Must knit faster!

You can find great deals on KnitPicks.com - and I have had lots of luck with any sock yarn I've gotten through Simply Socks. I basically use any yarn I can find for socks...on eBay, my favorite sock yarn person is Vormer. She has some absolutely lovely hand-dyed yarn and she pays for her girls' schooling with her yarn money.

I agree with Catherine on all the above. I have used Cherry Tree, and it's very nice. Koigu is a great sock yarn too, and lots of beautiful colors. I made my sister a pair of summer socks out of the Cascade Fixation yarn, and she loves them. The teeny bit of spandex (or lycra, or something like that) makes them hug her leg & NEVER fall down! For warm, winter socks I like Philosophers' Wool (although it's fairly itchy). Do you like the self striping yarns Jayne, or varigated, or solid colors?

I've never used Cherry Tree Hill but have touched it - it is very soft and lovely! My knitting group friends swear by Cherry Tree Hill and Trekking XXL. I just recently received some Claudia Handpainted Yarn (claudiaco.com) that is 100% merino for socks...wow, it's soft and so beautiful. I also knit with Regia for socks, but have found that it's a little itchy for my tastes, though it is washable wool, which is nice for socks.

Have you tried KnitPicks.com? I've heard that they have the best deals around. Another friend of mine bought some of their sock yarn to make into a baby sweater and it was so, so cute and soft. The colorway was "Geranium," mainly reds with some pinks and greens thrown in.

Good luck!

Catherine
