I just got an old Willcox & Gibbs chain stitch machine - hand-operated; cute as can be, but very dirty. I've cleaned and oiled as much as I can, but can't seem to figure out how to remove the needle/presser foot for cleaning. Does anyone know how?

Also, does anyone have a manual for these types of old machines? I would love to make a copy, and please let me offer to pay or whatever ...

Thanks so much!

Oh Mary I love your rugs they are beautiful. I too will share more information as I find it, I just cleaned up mine and put it in my sewing/craft room, it looks beautiful.
I did find some things on ebay but nothing I could use. I have the long arm light but need the long arm thread holder that was attached to the right back corner. What fun it will be to get all the parts and get them up and running again.
Hugs,
Debbie

Dear Blessed! Thanks. this is so exciting. I did find oiling directions at a site called ismacs.net. I love your Etsy Shop. Mine (for my rugs) is www.etsy.com/shop/Woolenbrae

I could not believe it when I saw your post. I just inherited my hubby's Grandmothers Willcox & Gibbs from 1896, Grandma Stoff use to work at the old St. Louis Missouri Sewing Factory and when she retired they gave her the old sewing machine she worked on for years, it is such a treasure for us.
Like you I need a manual and some parts as I am having trouble figuring things out as well. If I find out any information or find parts, manual etc I will let you know.
Congratulations on your new/old treasure.
Hugs,
Debbie
