I've recently started quilting. As in, I have made one quilt. I just got the fabric for a second and started playing around with designs when we took the heavy blankets off our bed for the summer. One of the blankets is an old microfiber fleece from when hubby was in college. It's got several tears around the edges and is fraying some too. It's a full size, do you think I could trim it down and use it for batting in my next quilt which will be for a toddler bed? |

I have used fleece blankets for batting and they work just fine.

I should be fine for a quilt that is for 'function' and being used all the time. Just make sure you pre-wash your fabrics to avoid weird shrinkage. Then machine quilt it pretty heavily so everything stays in place and doesn't shift around during washings.
I have used many things as backings and batting for my utility quilts. For summer quilts, many times I will just use an old flannel top sheet.
Like I said, just pre-wash and quilt the heck out of it. Then use it and love it death......
