I have been wanting a sewing machine for a few years but have never gotten one. Today I had to go to our local vacuum shop to buy bags. They also repair sewing machines. So on a whim I asked if they had any for sale- and low and behold they did! So I got a relatively new sewing machine for only $57!
Not only did I get a new-to-me machine- I also got a lesson on how to use the machine and told about the different types of thread and such. I am so excited.
So I got home and started working on some of my sewing projects that I just haven't been able to do by hand. I hemmed my "curtains" and created fancy ties for said curtains out of an oriental brocade fabric. My next step is to make toppers for my curtains and edge them with the brocade.
Anyway I am just excited and I am having lots of fun being able to sew at a decent pace.
I am still learning how to sew straight though! lol |

Posted - Oct 31 2006 : 1:17:19 PM Alee-you will be lost without that machine from now on. I find that if I write down the numbers of the patterns that I want and I don't want to pay $10-$18 dollars for them, I wait for a great sale and get them all for $1.99. My mother had a saying when she taught me to sew, "hands to work, hearts to God". Everytime I sew I think of her. |

Posted - Oct 30 2006 : 11:01:54 PM Alee, Have fun with it - I couldn't be without my sewing machine. In my old house, I used to have a sewing room, but now moved to a smaller house - so it lives on the floor next to the kitchen table ready to be set up when needed! I'd say I use it nearly every day - always have projects lined up ready to go. Your curtains must look lovely! Best wishes and happy sewing, Jayne |
