I cleaned out my pantry today and found (among way, way too many other things) a glass jar full of bottle caps. Mostly beer, I have to admit. 
I think this was from my husband going through a beer-tasting phase a few years back. When he settled down to a boring old Guinness-a-day routine, I must have given up saving the caps.
It's maybe 50-100 caps total. So not enough to, say, tile a countertop or create a hanging beaded curtain (which I saw in someone's house once--it was awesome).
Any suggestions on what I could do with these?

Wow, everyone! Thanks for the suggestions. My favorite is Linengal's idea of using them on a picture frame...I like the souvenir/trophy aspect of seeing all the different brand names.

You can also crochet around the caps to make a trivet too.
My kids make magnets with them. If they are all beer caps, you could paint or decoupage them too.
They make nice, fun keychains too.

Oh! Amie! I love working with bottle caps! I like to cut small pictures in the shape of circles, sayings, etc., to fit the inside of the cap, glue them inside (or on top - your preference!), and then either use them for scrapbooking projects OR add a magnet to the back to decorate the fridge OR add a pin on the back for a cute little fashion accent (You can add lots of embellishments to really fancy them up, too!)! For certain projects, you may want to hammer them down first, of course, to smooth and flatten the sharp ruffled edge. All you have to do is place them open side down on a hard surface (not the dining room table - I use a on old block of wood, or my husband takes them out to his work bench for me), then hammer down until the sharp wavy edge is flat. If you make magnets, you can also paint a piece of sheet metal to create a perpetual calendar, and then use the magnets to mark the date! Or, you could hammer them down and add the same pictures to two different sets of bottle caps to make cool chips for tic tac toe or checkers and chess - you could even paint up a nifty checkerboard out of recycled wood!

I have seen nifty shoe scrapers made with bottle caps. Nail them upside down onto a piece of board. Scrape your shoes on the rough side of the caps for a cleaner house! Also, you could glue them around a picture frame and then frame a photo of your husband enjoying a cold one. |
