So I bought an adorable book for my Kindle the other day called Kata Golda's Hand-Stitched Felt: 25 Whimsical Sewing Projects and I desperately want to make some of the things in her book, but I have no idea where to find felted wool. I've seen some on Etsy but it's really expensive. I'd love to buy some locally but I just can't imagine that they sell it at Michael's? I'm really ready to try a new stitching craft and now I want to make cute little felted wool animals but I need a reasonably priced source for the material. Any ideas?

Micheals craft store sells felted wool (it's usually near the knitting needles and such) or you could also hunt the thrift shop for 100% wool sweaters and shrink them. yourself.

Portia,
Yes, they really have great felted wool ... perfect for penny rugs and such! Great bundles prices too!

yep, I to am a fan of hitting the 2nd hand/thrift shops for wool garments and sweaters to repurpose into penny rugs.

also love peruseing through garments for unique buttons and trim/fringe...
for a $1.99, I bought a round table cloth with a fringe hem/edge,,, I removed the fringe to use for some deco pillow edging and the cotton cloth from the table cloth I used for other projects... not bad foe a $1.99

Felt can be purchased at Michael's. They would most likely have 9" X 12" squares which come in many colors and go on sale frequently. These squares may also be purchased at Joann Fabrics and Hancock Fabrics.

If you need more, it can be bought by the yard.

I tend to scavenge my wool. I look for wool jackets/coats at yard sales and thrift shops, cut them up and then wash them on hot and dry in a hot dryer (as opposed to air fluff). I try to get the wool as cheap as possible--it helps to offset when I have to actually buy ready made wool felt.

I think this may be what you are looking for ... they have great color packs ... prices are not bad ... considering the price of sweater, water time electric!

As mentioned you can make your own felt. I love finding wool sweaters at Thrift Stores for that purpose!

Well I made some cute purses with felted wool. I went to the thrift store and bought some 100% wool sweaters and washed the whey out of them and that is what felts them. Try it. MB
