I finally found it! My treasure treadle, a woman antiqued back east and shipped a barge of goodies up to Alaska, she gave me first pick of four treadle machines. This was the one she downplayed for price, etc. I LOVE it. As soon as I picked it up, I delivered it to an old gentleman who repairs old treadles, he worked on it the same morning and said it was in wonderful condition...... All I can think about is the evenings women hunched over its little parlor base while men were away at war or on the farm. It is too lovely for words, I cannot believe I found it. I'm showing it off here with the teacup quilt I finished this summer. Here's to all of our favorite treasures!

It's beautiful!
Its cabinet is very similair to my Grandma's, I would have loved to have it but with 30+ grand kids there were a few ahead of me in line for it. So I have a Davis with an open base I got at an auction.
Great Buy!

Very lovely machine some day I hope to own a compleat tredle I own 4 bases that I use as table legs.
My husband wants one too he used one when he lived in brazil for two years he really liked it too.
Before the question gets asked yes my husband sews.
He actually owens 3 machines 1 serger necchi, 1 phaff ( lower end one) noe special embroisery stuff and lastly an industrial sewing machine.
Not the normal husband he can actually mend his own clothes just doesn't.
He use to make fleece pullovers and things like that and industrial stuff like back packs add climbing supplies ( for rock climbing) and repaired trampolines and things like that when he was a manager of a local mountainerring ( sp) store.

Jo -- That quilt is wonderful -- I've seen that pattern in Kaffe Fassett's book, but to see it all done up in such wonderful fabrics -- I'm in awe. And your machine -- what a find! What will be your first project on it? |

Jo. your machine is beautiful...I have 4 of them...My grandmas',my mother-in-laws, my DH aunts', and I have no idea where the fourth one came from and they all work.....if fact I have used them when my electrics were being repaired....My youngest son just moved to country on 80 arce horse farm and I see where he has the " Odd one" in their hallway..I learned to sew as an 8 year old on my grannies and I still loved it...
The Quilt was "my cuppa of Tea"......

Believe it or not, this was very inexpensive, I still can't believe it. I went to a website that is sort of a encyclopedia of old machines and looked up my serial number. It dates to approximately 1913. I think the detailing on the cabinet reminds me of that era as well. I just ordered the manual from Relics online and additional needles. It takes longer needles and I understand they are not making the longer treadle needles anymore so I'm stocking up!!
It feels wonderful to sit down and work the treadle. I have always loved them. I remember sitting next to my grandmother and listen to her little french foot against the treadle peddle! I sent theoanne that teacup pattern, it is so sweet. It is out of a Kaffe Fasset book, it was designed by a swedish woman I believe. Many of his fabrics are in this quilt. The book is called "Quilt Road". Thanks for sharing my excitement!! jo

Very beautiful Jo! I must find a treadle to add to my collection.....They are just very hard to find up here as well....I would also rather stay local to avoid huge shipping costs.
The next quilt going tobe sewn on the treadle then? :D

Jo- Wow! That is one beautiful machine and cabinet! Lucky you to get first pick and find what you wanted! I've never seen a cabinet like that either but will look in my old Sears catalog and see if they have it. Do you know what year it is?
I love the sunny fabrics you used in your teacup quilt, nice job! Looking at that during gloomy weather can only make you smile! So what project is next on the agenda? Enjoy!

Jo- You lucky girl!! What a great machine and your quilt is georgeous!! I have one block of a teacup that theoanne made into a potholder. I love it. Your looks like a well-stocked china cabinet!!

That machine is beautiful! I have one that was kept in the barn for years, so the wood is warped and the legs are rusty. It's in the garage now, but I've got to find someone to fix it up for me, or at least tell me how to fix it up so I can have a project for my husband!! Congratulations on a super find! |

Jo, congrats! It is beautiful! I know you will love it. I actually have my grandmother's treadle, it's in my living room! The cabinet is not in good shape, but the machine runs like a work horse.
I too love the teacup quilt! You did a beautiful job!!!! Do you have the pattern for it. I would love to do it!

Thanks for sharing your pictures, Jo. Some woman obviously loved and cared for that machine! The cabinet is as gorgeous as it is unique! And if I had a quilt as beautiful as that, I'd have to hang it on my wall! Wow!! :)

JO,
What a beautiful sewing machine!! lucky girl you. Do I understand that someone paid to ship this to Alaska? Boy that would be some expense. I have an old treadle, it was my DH'S aunts, I love it, it looks a lot different then yours. I don't think I ever saw a treadle in a cabinet like yours. Of course I want that teacup quilt. Thanks for the showing us, wouldn't you just love to be able to see its past history?
