A friend of mine gave me several yards of vintage flour sack cloth, which I want to use to make my merit badges. Any suggestions on how to transfer the design to the fabric? Using a printer is not an option.
Thanks for your help.

Carol

I just picked up a fine-point blue washable marking pen to help with the smaller details. Looking forward to having the lines be more precise. Wish I had a lightbox...my arms get tired using the window! :) LOL!

I print mine onto muslin right from my printer. I take freezer paper and cut it to 8 1/2" by 11" and the iron muslin onto it and cut it out. It fits into the printer and that way I do not have to trace it. Peel the paper off, and you can usually use the freezer paper at least one more time.

I taped the template to the sliding door and taped the fabric over that. I used a marking pen to trace the design. Worked like a charm! I found using a wet Q-tip rather than a rag gave me more control when erasing the marks. Thanks again for all your recommendations.

That's a great idea to use the light box. Thanks!

Carol,
I use a light box and the washable tracing pen to transfer my designs. Just put the design over the light . . . you can use a window or anything with some light source behind it. Put the the fabric over and trace the design. Embroider and then wash out the marking. The pens I use are blue and it washes right out with water. Very easy!

Thanks, Nicole. I've got some tracing paper. I'll give that a try.

Before I started using my printer to do it, I just got regular tracing paper in the sewing notions section of Joann's, and traced it onto the fabric. More tedious to do than printing, but worked just fine. That tracing paper is not too expensive, either.
