Actually, you'll get to see how screwed up it is, and how it's not going into my quilt.

Posted - Jun 27 2013 : 10:30:12 AM Thank you Arttie! I am totally going to use the patches in something, just not my quilt. I have quite a bit of pieced pieces leftover from dozens of projects that I intend to put together someday. These are going to go into that box and await a revival later on. I'm really not ashamed of them at all. Like you said, for a first time shot, they are pretty good. But my goal for this quilt is for it to go into a contest, and there are strict rules about critiquing quilts. I want this quilt to be as good as it can get. And I'll keep making my quilt instead of letting this one slow me down. :) Thanks for being so encouraging!

Posted - Jun 25 2013 : 09:21:05 AM awww, Artie...what a wonderful encouragement. I can't imagine how long it will take me to make a block like that! You're doing a great job, Curly...love to check back to see what you are up to.

Your blocks are really good for a first time try. That is a really hard block to get perfect. I used to teach it in my advanced classes in my store. Well, not me, an advanced teacher too.
Here is what I suggest. Finish the quilt. Machine quilt it pretty tightly, this will reduce mounding and puffiness. Then in the centers where your points are not matching perfect add decorative buttons or applique to cover it up. Use the blocks as a back-drop to display something else.
And above else, be proud of your work imperfections and all. "Display it, use it, love it" was the motto at my store. Arttie |

Posted - Jun 25 2013 : 07:58:13 AM I think I'm going to try a paper piecing method. That always seems to give me clean results. Though I've never done that with points all coming to the middle. We'll see I guess!

Posted - Jun 24 2013 : 2:05:23 PM Even though they aren't cooperating with you...they are still pretty cool. I totally understand how frustrating this is though. I don't have any helpful hints as I'm new to this too. Keep up the good work!
