Posted - Oct 16 2006 : 9:03:59 PM Just an idea I'm throwing out -- flannel receiving blankets purchased at the store are expensive and get too small for swaddling REALLY fast. Make an exectant mom a more generous sized blanket or two using soft flannel (maybe even from your quilting stash!) in a 40 x 40 square. My husband insisted that I make up some blankets in this size for swaddling, and he was right!
Just cut the square and finish the edges -- I used my serger so it looks just like the stores, but a plain zig-zag hem would work too. You could even get fancy on a piece of plain white flannel and do an heirloom hem!
