Posted - Mar 04 2013 : 10:17:58 PM Help! I have been quilting for about a year and am self taught. I figured out that I just messed up my queen size quilt. I am ready to put it away for a couple years but I thought I would ask for help first. I have made a large dresden plates on 15 inch squares and I put them on point to make the quilt the size I wanted since it seemed that it would be too small to fit on my bed. I figured out the size needed to put inbetween the plates and the corners but when I went to put the edge piece I attached the wrong side so I trimmed them. Now I have pieces too small to do the side 1/2 squares they are more like quarters)and very little extra fabric. DH will give me dodo when I say I need more fabric so I may need to improvise to finish it up. I don't usually give up but I'm tired of winter, tired of looking for a job, tired of trying to get scholarships to finish school and tired of taking care of every need of my DH and kids. Maybe it will go away for a while.
God bless,

Posted - Apr 02 2013 : 1:39:34 PM One thing I have found in my quilting life is to cut the squares a little larger and then trim them down to size. The old adage works: Measure twice, cut once. I have had to cut and recut so many times that I won't repeat the words I've used.
Your quilt looks lovely. It should make you proud.

Posted - Mar 05 2013 : 2:48:36 PM Thanks everyone, I have kept up working on it and finished the chained panels and now will need to do the corners and then connect the panels together and the quilt top will be done. What to you think if I use the green that I chose for the backing to tie the backing to the front with a yellow binding.

Posted - Mar 05 2013 : 2:22:36 PM Not Colorado ... color. Sorry autocorrect stinks. |
princesspatches |
Posted - Mar 05 2013 : 2:20:20 PM Diana is right. That is exactly what I was going to say. Just add fabric to the triangles to make them larger. If you don't have enough yellow. Add a coordinating Colorado and add cornerstones throughout the quilt to tie it together.
Just remember......in quilting....there are no mistakes only new design elements! Everything is fixable.

Posted - Mar 05 2013 : 12:57:28 PM You can sew strips on the wide angles of triangles to increase the size of the triangles? Then add your borders? Diana

Can you post a picture of Wichita pieces are to small? And also how much are you short on each piece? 1/2"? 1"?
I can help you come up with a solution. I just need to see pictures of what you have.
I sm visualizing that your triangle setting pieces are to short. But I could be wrong.........
Feel free to post here ap message me privately. Arttie |
