and 2-- 1/2 pints of jelly
plus a bolt of pretty perwinkle blue material with white and yellow stars on it ; beautiful
for my birthday
making soap
I do not like lye soap
I remember my grand mother's making it ; and how awful it was in my opinion
so ; where do I start; is there a video on you tube you would recommend
I would love to be able to make my own soap
love the lemon verbena my friend sent me
I would love to learn to make lilac and rose soap
so, any help will be appreciated. hugs sheila

Sheila,
I think years ago lye soap was made rather "lye heavy" for heavy duty cleaning, not moisturizing.
I'd try a bar made by someone who makes it more "fat heavy" for skin.
You'll be surprised!
I love homemade lye soap, I make soap a couple times a year and use about 6% extra fat in my recipe and some coconut oil for more suds.
I do Hot process, so it doesn't have to cure, after cooking it ready to use. I still dry the bars for a week or two and then store.

I remember both of my grandmothers making lye soap and I just hated it ;
they never used it expect for washing clothes ; i don't think
I don't remember them adding and scents to it either
I don't think the lye making thing is for me ;
I have RA and breathing problems at times;
so I know I would make a mess of it
but; if I were healthy and younger ; I might give it a try ; thanks

Sheila,
I make Goat Milk Soap..but I do use lye...I make it like the olden days way...Just love it....I just made my first batch of Lilac and Rose soap have done before...I put real rose peddles in my soap. My home smell's heavenly right know...I have done about 7 different scents view weeks ago.
One of my favorite thing to do is making soap, with my goats milk. It is the best thing for your skin..

If you really don't like lye soap, have you thought about the melt and pour soap? It is so easy to do. But some people don't like it since they say it is "not real soap". But that is what I make my soap with right now since I can't make lye soap in my apt with my small children. Just a thought. But I have looked up lots of lye videos online before. You just have to decide if you want to do cold compress or hot compress. I'm not sure if Natures Garden has any videos but I know they have recipes. Also there is a girl in my area that does classes and she might have some info. Her name is Amanda Griffin, and she a lot of info.
