Okay, another dishtowel question: How do I do those fancy crocheted edges on the towels? I know how to crochet, but I can't figure out how you get the edgings on the towels.

Thanks-
Kim in NC

Yep, at least that's the way I've always done it. Depending on what the finished side of your lace looks like, you can attach it to the right or wrong side. If you're comfortable with doing it, you can attach your lace at the same time you stitch your hem so as to have only one row of stitching showing.
My grandmother would always crochet directly to the fabric, making her "foundation" row directly through the last folded, outermost edge. She put crocheted lace on everything and some of her pillowcases were so pretty and feminine.

Diane - then do you attach the edging directly to the stitching?

You can just fold under 1/4" and press and then fold under once more. On the right side, stitch with a medium-length stitch around the hem. Ta dah! Hope this helps Libbie...or that I answered the question you were asking :)

How do you hemstitch something? That may sound like way too basic a question, but I was wondering if it's possible to do it on a "regular" sewing machine somehow...

you can either sew on by hand or machine ( zig zag) once you have made the edging or you can have the edges hemstitched and attach the edging as you make it.hemstitched = little holes going all around the edge of the item that you can crochet into.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe
