Just for reference, there is a picture of MaryJane wearing hers (she is facing away from the camera) in her Ideabook on page 318, The one she is wearing is a pinkish color with embroidery on it. There are a couple paragraphs where MJ describes hers.
Linda . . that is exactly what I'm thinking. Little things along our "journey" that are remembrances! I just haven't decided what yet and haven't gotten farther than the running stitch along hem. I'm still finishing up laundry and putting our glamping gear away!! But we have SOOOOOOO enjoyed it!
We call ourselves the "4871 Glamping Farmgirls" . . . I'm pretty sure that will get embroidered on it somewhere!

CJ--Just a thought, went back and read you posts, you mentioned a work in progress, what about a date and place where you camp, each time. and maybe a small embroidery, or iron on picture of something that would relate to each of the date time and place. Kristina, two years ago at our annual campout, one of the farmgirls gave our hencho, a shilly shally, and it was so neat. It was large, I think bigger than 36 inches, and it was made with a thin muslin, and she even tea stained it, and embroidered Horses and the name of her farm on it. It was so pretty. I have wanted to make me one, and still have not gotten around to it. Can be used for any purpose, around your shoulders, over the head in rain, or sun, and on a table, or a chair, or just to pull up and cover legs when cool, You could paint on it, or edge it with rick rack or lace or just simple outlining stitch, as I believe CJ said she did. Have a great time working on it, I think homemade stuff says I love you, or care about you better than any thing else. Because if you are a crafty person, you know what goes into the project, money, time, effort and energy. And you care about it that much more. Farmgirl #946 Linda

I don't recall seeing the shilly-shally in any magazines. I'll try to get some more info to you. I wish I had mine more embellished to show you pics, but I don't . . . just got it made. Did use running embroidery stitch around the edge as sort of a border. It's going to take a while to get it very embellished! I'm not sure what I want to put on it yet. But I'm also thinking it could be a work in progress, perhaps something that I do over time and with more glamping adventures. Hmmmmmmm . .

Thanks, CJ. I do not have any of the MJ books, but do take the magazine and have not seen it in there. Looks interesting. I might have to suggest to my MJF group that we all make one. Thanks, again, for satisfying my curiousity!

Kristi, I just made some for Robin and myself. I purchased "Super Muslin" at Walmart which is a really nice weight and weave, in natural color. They are about 43-44 inches square, finished and hemmed. As with any fabric, I prewashed it. MJs book mentioned making them 36 inches square which is probably adequate, but we really like the larger size. I don't think I'd like any smaller than the 36 inches square, for sure. We still have to embroider . . or whatever on them. Just delivered Robin's to her this past weekend and she used hers every evening. I did get a running stitch border sewn around mine.

Mary Jane talks about her "shilly-shally" in one of her books. Basically a square of fabric that is not too heavy or too light and dries quickly. You can use it as a shawl, scarf . . . either dry for a wee bit of warmth, or wet it for a cool down on a hot day. Embellish, embroider or not . . . whatever you wish.
