When I make soap, most of the recipes use liquid oils, like olive or vegetable oil. I have a digital scale. I was wondering if measuring liquid oils in a measuring cup, like 16 oz., is the same as measuring it on a scale at 16 oz? I have noticed some of the soaps are softer longer than others.

Any easy way to deal with this is to weigh your oil container empty, then with the container still on the scale, pour in your oil until you have the right amount plus the weight of the container. Say you use a big metal pitcher. It weighs 3 ounces. You need 16 ounces of oil. Keeping the empty container on the scale, pour in oil until the scale reads 19 ounces. |

believe or no the answer to your question is no they are not the same as some oils are heavier in weight...say 2 cups (16 oz) of pure olive oil may be heavier in weight than say 2 cups (16 oz) of refined filtered corn oil.....it all depends on how they were created, filtered, refined, heated & so on......its like weighing 2 cups of sugar water compared to 2 cups of honey....thought they both say 2 cups both may not be a true 16oz in weight...yeah very confusing but best to always weigh what you are using so you don't end up with too much oil or too little oil in your soaps......have fun dear hen...Michele'
