Boy I need to clear a craft space period. Since my old computer died about a month ago,I no longer have a need for the junky computer desk I've been using for 10 years. I gotta clear that all out & switch sewing tables. It's gotten piled with things I need to sort thru....it's a mess. You girls are inspiring me!

I'm just in the process of sorting and moving my sewing room. It has been the dining room table...with supplies stored in the furnace room. You sure do accumulate alot when you been crafting for 20 or more years. I'm trying to only keep the projects that really make me smile and bless someone else with the ones that don't anymore. Some of these things I acquried many years ago and, look, they are back in again. Go figure! Ha Ha!! I am using found things to store my treasures; such as old dressers painted up cute, baskets, and an organizer with the pretty square canvas cubbies. I wish you all luck in your organization ventures. If anyone has a terrifc sewing/craft room, put up some pictures. I'm always looking for inspiration!

I'm cleaning out my craft/sewing room today. So overwhelming with all the years of accumulation! So many unfinished projects...(sigh) I have come across several things that were almost complete and I spent a couple of hours whipping them out and so those things are done and out of there. It felt so good to finish something instead of just looking at it and moving around the room to another stack of unfinished madness. I think it's good for the soul to do some crafting in the midst of cleaning. It helps give you some perspective and reboot your organization/de-cluttering process. I haven't had time since we moved in last summer to really hang out in my awesome room and play. So I'm glad to take a little play time so I can now organize how everything is going to work in there. It's still a mess, but progress is being made! Yippee! Better get off here to continue on my quest!

I actually consider myself lucky. How many women get to restart their sewing supplies and stashes from scratch?! :) I am rebuilding my sewing and crafty supplies, finding that I am willing to be more picky now with what I keep and do not keep. Plus Mom has been so nice to pass things along and I pick and choose from those the things I like and want. If I keep it cleaned up and organize from the get go, it will be easier in the long run to keep things nice and tidy. :) At least that is the game plan. Maybe when my supplies get larger, I will enjoy the chaotic crafty mess to get my crafty juices going. ;)

Does anyone else have the same problem I do, spending so much time organizing and sorting my "stuff" that I never actually get started on the projects? I think I have to shift my focus, and have a project plan/schedule.

I am working on my craft closet today. Taking some of Leslie's suggestions to get boxes and label. I am going to start out separating things though so I have an idea of how many boxes I need. I already have some pretty decorative ones so will keep the things I already have in those there, and put them on the shelves. Everything but my machine will go in there so I may have to get creative for shelves and space. Better scoot from here so I can get to it!

I have the hardest time getting rid of craft supplies but will give furniture away when I have no need for it! Go figure! |

Fabric, yarn, beads, paints, etc. I always look at all this and think of the projects I want to work. So, of course, nothing gets thrown, only re-placed. So happy to know others have the same problem. Good luck.

Maybe this will help: With pencil in hand, write down all the craft things you want to do. Then write down tools for each. Label boxes, baskets or bins for each and fill them. Have one place with the tools you use for everything: rulers, scissors, needles, etc. Then plan where these will live. Everything needs a home. My room is filled with stuff for all that I like but because everything has a place at least most of the time I know where it is. I have one table, one desk, one sewing table and one book case. Everything else is in plastic bins (on sale). I get messy and don't always clean it up but when I want it clean, I know where it goes. Good luck.

Because supplies are so expensive to buy I don't get rid of things that I know will probably get used. If not now, or really soon, probably down the road. I do reorganize and after my Farmers Market (see aprons there) season I go through fabric and scraps and scraps of the trims I use and usually give much of it away. I don't have time while I'm smack in the middle of the market season.
I think reorganizing, labeling and such is very, very helpful!
I've been VERY glad for some of the things that have been saved for a while . . . so much has come in REALLY handy!

I just squished my sewing room to fit into half my DH's office. Sad to lose it, but I'm more organized now.
I recommend keeping all you can, and labeling it in shoeboxes. Michaels has "memory boxes" lately for around $2 if you can find them in a clearance bin!

My room is coming along I haven't gotten rid of much. A few magazines,bent paper, some recyclable and other things that shouldn't be in there.Still going to be clutter but organized. Hope to finish up today. Think Im going to lose my table space but that's ok.

I am getting ready to empty my craft space and re organize. I am not planning however to get rid of anything as I already did a downsize sometime ago and I haven't bought anything except a cross stitch project that needs to be done by December.

I'd rather down size my closet, dresser, and even shoes! Not my crafting stuff! I get chills looking at beautiful yarn, and the joy I feel when I actually finish a project is so much better then new shoes or a new dress! So I will wind up with no shoes or clothes, but covered in yarn and as happy as can be! HA!

Think downsizing the craft items is soooo hard!!!! It's sad but true! Maybe underbed storage totes would help with freeing up space?

Ruthie Ann: I know exactly what you mean. I am trying to simplify things. I am at the point of refusing to get rid of my crafts; yarn, crochet hooks by the hundreds, oil paints, etc...
I may need them one day, why give them away now. I surely don't want to spend money again buying them when I have them now. LOL

You do not want my suggestion! I keep every craft item..I may need it...my Sunday School may need it..or one of my daughters may need it!! I have a VERY hard time to part with my craft supplies!
