Posted - Sep 20 2006 : 8:56:59 PM Oh my, Tasha, I wonder if you 'win' the apron contest. I certainly can't keep up with that!!! I love your ideas on aprons. That is why I love this forum so much - as you said, finally finding women who understand how you think and feel. Most women I know think it is almost degrading to wear an apron, like it somehow makes you dumb and boring. I like what Tasha Tudor said about being proud to be a housewife, that you can always read Shakespeare while stirring the jam. Best wishes, Jayne

Posted - Sep 20 2006 : 8:36:03 PM I pulled this off of my other blog. I had written it awhile back in response to a survey I had gotten (MySpace...LOL)
"Saturday, May 13, 2006 11:24 AM - What is in your (APRON) pocket. Current mood: amused
I answered this question in a recent survey and found that I can contain a lot of things in my apron pocket. Currently there is:
An earring, a key ring, a bread tag, a penny from 1961, hair ties in these colors: cranberry, white, black, brown, yellow, pink, navy, camel and blue, a note from Grace ont he backside of a receipt, a $5 coupon for a $50 purchase at Target, a braid of hemp twine, a kleenex, a 6" or so piece of elastic, a SCHMETZ UNIVERSAL needle container containing 4 -90/14 needles, a bobby pin, a charm bracelet, a 1993 penny, a bobbin with teal thread on it and a sea green Sharpie. Yes, all of that is in my pocket....and that is only the apron pocket...I don't know what else I may have in my dress pocket...let me check....oh just a kleenex. It's allergy season.
I love aprons."
I have yet to empty my apron from today, but It is different each day, except for something to wipe noses with....I gave Grace one of my vintage hankies today and told her, "You should keep this in your apron. Every lady keeps one in her apron. (She is 4 and wants to be a 'real lady' so very badly.)" She wanted to see that I had one, too. I showed her that I did and she accepted the hankie and put it in her pocket. Later on I spied her "blowing" her nose.

Posted - Sep 20 2006 : 8:20:27 PM The count...and I counted twice....73 and I have three ready for the machine this weekend and four patterns to cut next week.
I am a wee bit obsessed. I have been for awhile now. That is why I was so excited when I found this website and women who were obsessed with aprons like me.
I am a feminist. It is in my bones. Aprons are also in my bones because I am a feminist. I get upset that militant femms make all femms look bad and also look down on femms like me who take to heart what the Women's Movement is really about....not having to be or do any certain thing just because I am a woman, but doing anything I care to, be it go to college, be in politics, be corporate, be a construction worker, be a farmer, a wife, a mother, an activist, a Witch, a Christian, whatever. That's what aprons give me. They give me the nostalgia that my foremothers fought for me to be able to do all fo these things and more and I think of them and remember them and thank them each morning when I put on one of my aprons to get to my work for the day. Not just "Woman's Work," but the work that I love and that my heart is called to do.
So I will keep after collecting them. I don't *really* use just one of them. They each are used everyday, even if only by my eyes.

Posted - Sep 20 2006 : 2:01:13 PM Tasha, Those are great aprons! My girls are always "borrowing" mine and I have promised them a mommy/daughter set. Seeing how cute yours are reminds me I need to get going...after I finish those Reniassance costumes. Oh, my! My projects basket is already full and I'm adding another one!
You are so blessed: beautiful daughters and a beautiful garden! Trina
