Hello all! It's been along time since I've been on here! Lots of things have happened over the past few years, big moves, job changes, lost babies, new babies and cancer. Although I'm not the one with the cancer,my sister is. She is 30 years old and has tri-negative breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy in March. When she had her surgery she had a wonderful nurse who gave her an apron to hold her drains. This apron was donated to them by Susan G Komen, but normally sells for $65-75 and is not covered by insurance. I'm not sure that many women can afford this frivolous item during a time that they are dealing with other expenses not covered by insurance.
That's where we come in! This apron was a life saver for my sister! My mom and I came up with a tutorial for an apron and have started a sew along on my blog http://cooksewsmile.blogspot.com and a flickr group to share our photos! Everything is on my blog with a link to the flickr group! We want the aprons to stay in the communities in which they were sewn! After all breast cancer isn't in just one place, unfortunately! So please come over to my blog and see what I'm talking about and hopefully join us in helping women who are facing mastectomys. After all, how many of us can honestly say that we don't know someone that is or has gone through this battle?!
Btw my sister was an active member on here for a while too, I just don't remember her name on here. She has a blog to share her journey http://lesliesbumpyroad.blogspot.com.

Thank you all!

Nancy, I got your wonderful aprons! Thank you so much! God Bless you! They are just lovely:)

Angie,
My sister wore hers kind of mid stomach. It wasn't able to be worn very high because of the site of entry for the drains and couldn't really be worn at the waist because of the length of the drains. Does any of that make sense at all? haha! I'd love to have you sew along with us! Thank you so much!

Hugs,
Robin :)

I looked at the tutorial and actually have a silly question... are these waist aprons or princess height aprons? Super cool idea. I might try to make a few before our Relay for Life next weekend to give away.

Do what you love, love what you do.

Hey, Robin! What a great idea! Can you post the address for the flickr group, too?
I have more than my fair share of FQ's and bias binding, so I'll be glad to try my hand at a few of them.
Also, if you email me your addy, I will ship them to you to go to the cancer unit.
