I could make a granny square afghan with circles instead of squares right, is there something I should know? I have so much yarn in so many colors I should be using it up. The only color I would buy is the border for each circle. So before I start doing this any advise?

yes you can it normally requiers a filler motif to fill in the hole left where the corners would have been or the center is a circle then the last two rows the boarder form a square any of those ideas would work. are you using yarn or crochet thread
