I am teaching my middle daughter russian needlepunch ( real simple). She has drafted her pattern and we will transfer it to fabric this week. then work on it. I was wondering how many people out there do this type of needle work it has had a resurgence (sp) in the last few years. People call it needlepunch now days instead of russian needlepunch.

thanks everyone everyday after school she asks who has commented this is so much fun to her. Like I said last year her sister beat her in this compatition and this year big sister didn't enter and she won in two catagories. My usband and myslef think this is great it is a big moral buster for her. She seems to live in big sisters shadow kind of hard on her. So this is her time to shine at the moment and she is enjoying it thank you.

It is pretty easy you just buy the needles at roberts craft or Michaels and then you stretch your fabric on the hoop load needle directions on package. Have image on fabric before stretching what ever you want to do. Just remember you are working from the back of the work so all letters have to be written backwards. then start punching. it is an up and down motion keeping the tip of the needle on the fabric not pulling away from fabric or you will pull out your stitchs change colors as needed. real simple that is why we picked it as her art project simple with neat results.

she entered this in an art contest with two other drawings she did I never saw those. Out of the three items 2 won awards and get to go on to the next level. One was a chalk drawing and one was the russian needle punch. the other was a pencil and inkk drawing that came home today. She is so excited last year she lost to her sister. This year she won in two catagories.

Wow Sunshine, I knew it wasn't NEW, but had no idea it was ancient! You are a wealth of information!
Not sure how fancy my little kit is...there is a vial with several different size needles and instructions. Funny thing, I passed the kit up the week before, and regretted it. When it was still there the next week, I thought I must "need" it! LOL
I think I was avoiding learning yet another new craft. But it looks so easy-how could I not!?
Seems like a perfect craft to introduce to your young ones! Easy to learn and quick to complete! A sure confidence booster!

wow 1.50 the needle she uses is mine and it was almost 50 dollars that is an awsome price ( mine is brass and has changable heads and alot of stuff like that made in russia . Please show us all when you get yours done or half done what ever. Yes she drew the picture herself I had her sit down and draw 30 pictures then we went throught them and discussed why they would or wouldn't be good canidates then narrowed down to this one. I like that you call it a "new" craft ( I know that is ajoke so here is some info). As it is centuries old all the way back to the middle ages even before that in ancient egypt they used hollow bird bones as their needles. So not exactly a new craft (just a revival of an old craft as the saying goes whats old is new again).

Oh my goodness Sunshine! Your daughter puts me to shame! I'm just so impressed! What a lovely job she did! Is this her own design? Just wonderful!

It's so sweet that you can pass all these things on to your daughters. My boys of course aren't interested in all that. Their interest lies more in my other talent-COOKING! Maybe I will get a sweet daughter in law or grandaughter one day though. :)

I have been eyeing this "new" craft in all the magazines and itching to give it a try. I even found a punch needle kit (circa 1987), unused, at the thrift store for $1.50! Please tell your daughter she has inspired me to give it a try!
Blessings, Rhonda

I posted a picture on my blog of my 7 year olds russian needle punch if you wouldn't mind looking at it and leaving a comment it would mean the world to her. She is one of those kids that thinks older sister always does things better and is real shy. Well older sister is very proud on little sister on this it is going in the school art show in dec. Big sister was sweet and said to her " If there where prizes at this show you would surley win!" I think that was just great a smile from ear to ear. So if you feel so inclined I would greatly appreciate comments amied at making a 7 year old happy the more the merrier so to speak. Happy to have them here and posted on the blog thanks.

thank you for reading this

I have had flannel waiting to be made into my new nightgown for winter since LAST fall. Hmmmm now that my old ones are getting a little too threadbare to be presentable and the long tee shirt looking ones won't be warm enough in a month or so I'd best get ON that project. Hopefully that pretty dark blue calico flannel wont' sit waiting another year. I love a nice warm flannel granny gown in winter. ( my kids call the old night gown "old Blue")
