Posted - Aug 17 2006 : 1:11:35 PM Does anyone know of a good place to look for vintage fabirics? It seems the flea markets and thift stores charge too much for them. What other sources for them? Can anyone suggest a good book about them? ![](icons/icon_smile.gif) |

Posted - Aug 18 2006 : 08:23:13 AM my best source is still garge sales, i do go to our local goodwill, cause itis really a great on and i look at the clothes more as yard goods. occasionally i buy an old upholstered chair and it has surprises under the ouside uphostery. i agree that the flea markets are outrageous, but im afraid like frannie if it is just too gorgeous i still sometimes spluge on it....but then i have a really hard time using it.! i too love the vintage fabrics, what do you make with them. i love seeing the other farmgirls crafts, etc. fran |

Posted - Aug 18 2006 : 03:46:18 AM Salvation Army store here has vintage fabrics occasionally -- usually for under $2. Also garage sales are a great source and church rummage sales are a treasure trove! Around here, only a few folks are interested in vintage fabrics, so I usually find a good deal. |

Posted - Aug 17 2006 : 9:30:28 PM my passion is 1800's 'homespun' . ... and i like to see and feel the fabrics before buying .. sooooo .. i have to haunt antiques shoppes for them .. and pay a pretty 'ripe' price for them. haven't discovered anyone giving them away .. and i find thata it gives me the 'owies' to pay a high price .. but if i reeeeeeeeeely love it .. i just DO it .. then it is MINE .. and i have never been sorry afterwards.
all of the above sources are great for 'newer vintage' fabrics ... ask and ye shall receive! xo

Posted - Aug 17 2006 : 8:10:53 PM Most of my really great vintage finds came from tag sales. I agree with Sunshine...get the word out that you are looking for specific items and people will offer things to you all the time! I have a really great relationship with the ladies at the local church thrift store. I go there often to shop & chat with them. When I told them what I do, they offered to put things aside for me. Many nicer thrift stores don't put out things that are musty or stained so they have no other use for old fabric or clothing. It never hurts to ask! Rhonda

Posted - Aug 17 2006 : 1:13:43 PM garage sales, ebay, internet, church tell people you want old fabric and alot of times people have lots they don't use any more.
Another place is relatives sometimes you have relatives who use to sew and don't half of my front room rug came from wool that had been sitting in my greaqt aunts basement for 50 years. And that is a 12 by 19 rug. Ask it doesn't hurt and all you can be told is yes or no.
