I learnt to do bobbin lace many years ago and loved it - once you get the pattern in your mind it is really relaxing. I haven't done any for years so I'm afraid I can't remember enough to give you any tips but I remember teaching my daughter basic patterns when she was about 7 and she was able to make some beautiful items.

Oh one tip I remember - keep cats away from it - those dangling bobbins!!!! they will destroy hours of work in a few seconds!!!!!

Sheila,

Sent the book out first thing this morning. It should be there in a few days. Hope you like it and can use it. Best of luck in learning how to make the lace.

oh you are NOT to old to learn...I am 52 & starting to try all the things I wanted to do earlier in life but didn't have the time.....I have even taught myself battenburg lace...now there is one that will drive yo crazy if you do it the old way all by hand...but i can say I did it.....with the bobbin lacing I only have worked with 12 bobbins since the idea of any more than that right now is over my head....just keeping track of the 12 is hard at times when the cats want my attention 7 decide to climb up in my lap while I am working on it...lol.....Michele'

I brought mine at the Victorian trading post too;
Farm Dream
it can be hadazus to one's health ; when one wants to learn a new craft and you have to start from scratch
I don't understand why Victorian's say it is a "easy" craft to learn
I have knitted, crocheted and tatted lace.
this bobbin lace is more difficult than any i have tried so farm
but, I so want to learn
I am 56 soon to be 57; do you all think I am to old to learn?
do I have enough time left?? lol
O Marcy
I am a self taughter type of person too
my husband's great aunt taught me to tat years ago.
nmaw90
thanks for the website
have you learned to do it yet?
thanks girls ; hugs sheila

Hi Sheila,

I taught myself how a few years ago. I so wish that I knew someone around here that could make me a pillow. I have an extra book that I can send you if you are interested. It's called Bobbin Lace an illustrated guide to contemporary and traditional techniques. It's by Brigita Fuhrmann. Let me know and I will get it out to you.

take care
hugs
Marcy

After about 4 yrs of the bobbin lacing kits sitting there & still not knowing how to do it..I got on You tube 7 there was this guy who goes thur it step by step...had to watch it about 10 times to get my head around it but finally learned....Once you get it it seems so simply you can't believe it took forever to learn...but I am still playing...no bedspreads for me yet...but I do enjoy it...I got my kit years ago thur the victorian catalog for under $40....I have an old airplane pillow...don't asked how I got it...lol...that I use with it & it works great.....once I am good at it I will add beads ect to the bottoms of the bobbins for the weight to help pull the threads better & more evenly...but for now I just play....Michele'
